Introduction to Meditation
We all want to be happy and lead fulfilled lives. But too often we
depend upon our minds to find this happiness and too often we are

answers to finding true joy and contentment, not our minds. This is where
meditation comes in. By learning how to quiet the mind, we can remove

Swim to Stay Fit (Adults Only)
This is a planned activity to encourage individuals to swim regularly. The activity is not a race, a mara-
thon, not competitive, or an endurance contest. Its goal is to improve the physical fitness of the
swimmer over a period of time. Each individual should swim as many lengths of the pool as possible.
Registration may be done by mail – 12 swimmer limit per class.
Parent & Child Aquatics (9 mos. – 3 yrs.)
An adult is required to accompany each child in the water and participate in every class. You and
your child will learn to feel comfortable in the water, submerge and explore breath control, explore
floating on the back and front, change body position in the water, play safely in the water, and expe-
rience wearing a life jacket.
Preschool Aquatics (ages 4 & 5)
Preschool Aquatics puts the “fun” in fundamentals. Each class is loaded with enjoyable, engaging,
and challenging activities that motivate children to want to perform and learn to swim. Parents are
not permitted in the pool but the child may wear a flotation device. Progressive/layered swim aid
may be ordered at registration for $10.00.
LEVEL 1 – Introduction to Water Skills
Helps students feel comfortable in the water. In this level, the participants will learn to enter and exit
the water safely, open eyes underwater, pick up submerged objects, swim on front and back using
arm and leg actions, submerge mouth, nose and eyes, float on front and back, exhale underwater
through the mouth and nose.
LEVEL 2 – Fundamental Aquatic Skills
Gives students success with fundamental skills. Participants learn to roll over from front to back, back to
front, swim on front and back using combined strokes, swim on side, tread water using arm and leg
motions and perform front and back glide.
LEVEL 3 – Stroke Development
Builds on the skills from level 2 through additional guided practice. Participants will learn to jump into
deep water from the side, bob with head fully submerged, perform survival float, perform the HELP
and Huddle position, dive, front and back crawl, perform a reaching assist, and butterfly (kick and
body motion).
LEVEL 4 – Stroke Improvement
Develops confidence in the skills and improves other aquatic skills. In this level, participants shallow
dive or dive from stride position, perform open turns on front and back using any stroke, elementary
backstroke, breaststroke, swim on side using scissors-like kick, butterfly and care for conscious choking
victim.
LEVEL 5 – Stroke Refinement
Provides further coordination and refinement of strokes. Participants will be able to tread water with
two different kicks, standing dive, tuck surface dive, backstroke flip turn, front flip turn, butterfly, and
sidestroke, learn survival swimming and perform rescue breathing.
LEVEL 6 – Fitness Swimmer/Personal Water Safety
Refines the strokes so students can swim with ease, efficiency, power and smoothness over greater
distances. This level is designed with “menu” options that each focus on preparing students to partici-
pate in more advanced course, Including Water Safety Instructor and Lifeguard Training course.
These options include Personal Water Safety, Fitness Swimmer, Lifeguard Readiness and Fundamentals
of Diving,
All swimming courses will be taught in conjunction with the
swimming and water safety course of the American Red Cross.
Parents and participants need to be water-ready in order to be on
the pool deck.

observation deck at the high school or in the hallway at William
Street.
