Some important sections of the Topology web page are:
• Information banner (across the top of the page)
It’s easy to keep track of how much time is left to perform the labs by using the Time Left field. This information in the top of the window is always visible (unless in Full Screen View).
• Tools section
o Documentation: Links to download all lab guides and any additional
documentation (for example, the Read Me First guide).
o Request Support: Use this if you have any issues with performing lab steps or
storage hardware, select Open a Support Request – Partners and open a trouble ticket.
• Devices section
Use this section to start the labs (see below).

If you cannot view the entire Windows Server 2012 window due to the video resolution of your
display, clicking this icon from the Devices section switches into full screen mode.
Section 2. Connecting to the storage system
The starting point for these labs is a remote connection (RDP) to a remote system running Windows Server 2012. From there, a web browser is used to connect to the Lenovo Storage S2200 and S3200 Arrays and perform all the lab steps.
__ 6. From the Windows Server 2012 desktop, double-click the Google Chrome browser icon.
The address of the Lenovo Storage S2200 and S3200 Arrays to use should be already configured so the Lenovo Storage Management Console window is shown.
__ 7. The Lenovo Storage Management Console (or SMC) window is shown.

Figure 2 Lenovo S3200 Storage Management Console
The Lenovo S3200 Storage Management Console is a web-based application for configuring, monitoring, and managing the Lenovo Storage S2200 and S3200 Arrays. The SMC will be the starting point for the labs.
Some things to keep in mind as you use the SMC web-based interface (WBI):
• Do not use the browser's Back, Forward, Reload, or Refresh buttons. The SMC has a single page for which content changes as you perform tasks and automatically updates to show current data.
• In an action panel, an asterisk (*) identifies a required setting. • If an action panel has an Apply button and an OK button, click Apply to enable your
changes and keep the panel open or click OK to apply any changes and close the panel. After clicking Apply you can click Close to close the panel without losing changes already applied.
• To display context-sensitive help for the content of the topic pane, click the help icon in the banner.
The main areas of the interface are the banner, the topic tabs, the topic pane, and the footer, as represented by the following graphic:

Section 3. Verify state of Lenovo Storage S2200 and S3200 Arrays
The Lenovo Storage S2200 and S3200 Arrays that you are connected to should not contain any disk groups, pools, host mappings of any kind, or global spares. Before we get started, you will verify that Lenovo Storage S2200 and S3200 Arrays is in a “clean” state.
__ 10. From the Topics Tabs, select Pools. The Pools topic pane is shown.
__ 11. Verify no Pools are shown.
__ 12. If any Pools are shown, do the following for each:
__ a. From the Pools Name column, select the pool name. The Related Disk Groups are shown.
__ b. Select any Disk Group shown.
__ c. Click the Action button and select Remove Disk Groups. The Remove Disk Groups window is shown.

__ a. Uncheck each disk that is being used as a global spare.
__ b. Click Change. The Processing the Request window is shown.
__ c. When finished, the Success window is shown.
__ d. Click OK to continue.

Lab Guide
At this point, you can start the lab with a Lenovo Storage S2200 and S3200 Arrays that is in a “clean” state.
Section 4. Creating a pool (Standard tier)
A pool is an aggregation of one or more disk groups that serves as a container for volumes. A disk group is a group of disks of the same type, using a specific RAID type that is incorporated as a component of a pool, which stores volume data. Volumes are added to a pool and the data is distributed across the pool's disk groups.
The system supports a maximum of two pools, one per controller module: A and B. You can add up to 16 virtual disk groups for each pool. If a pool does not exist, the system will automatically add it when creating the disk group. Once a pool and disk group exist, volumes can be added to the pool. Once you add a virtual disk group, you cannot modify it. If your organization's needs change, you can modify your storage amount by adding new virtual disk groups or deleting existing ones.
Depending on the type of disks selected and license installed, virtual disk groups belong to one of the following tiers:
• Performance Tier (SSDs): o Optional license is required for tiering with SSDs o No license is required for SSD Read Caching o No license is required for HDD tiering (no SSDs)
• Standard Tier (2.5” 15k and 10k SAS) • Achieve Tier (3.5” or 2.5” 7.2k SAS)
The Lenovo Storage manager automatically assigns drives to different storage tiers based on their speed. In this section, you create a pool by creating a Standard tier disk group consisting of several of the 10K SAS drives in the Lenovo Storage S2200 and S3200 Arrays.

Section 4. Mapping a volume to a host
Now that you have created a volume, in this section, you use the Mapping topic tab to attach your volume to the host.
In iSCSI setup, first you have to make sure that there is a correct Host Port IP configuration before you can actually map the volume to the host. In the next step, we will verify the setting and then map the volume to the host.

Lab Guide
Figure 18 Host Ports Settings window
When configuring an iSCSI system you have to make sure that Host Ports have correct IP addresses assigned to them. These IPs have to be on the same network as the HBA so that a connection is made.
For port A0, confirm that:
• IP Address is set to 192.168.254.101
• Netmask is set to 255.255.255.0
• Gateway is set to 0.0.0.0
o In our case, we are doing a direct attach iSCSI which doesn’t need a gateway configured.
For port B0, confirm that:
• IP Address is set to 192.168.254.111
• Netmask is set to 255.255.255.0
• Gateway is set to 0.0.0.0
__ 41. In the Port Settings tab, verify all the values shown based on the Information directly
above. Make changes if necessary.
__ 42. Click OK if changes were made. Otherwise, click Close.
