“We cared enough about our past to memorializeit,” said Library Board of Trustees chairpersonMichael Glennon in his May 14th dedication speechfor the Tile Mural of Old East Northport. Othercommunity residents have expressed similar feelingsabout the color-filled, primitive art mural designedand executed by East Northport artist Esther Tollen:

The Tile Mural of Old East Northport was supported by donationsfrom individuals, families, and groups whose names became part of theproject on tiles placed on the two adjacent walls of the East Northportfireplace. Many donations were made in honor or memory of loved ones.
Resident Ely Roll’s comments sum up the feelings of many in thecommunity when she wrote “You have enriched all of us with the beautyof your mural and added another dimension to East Northport becoming acohesive community in its own right.”
The Library’s Millennium Bookball Sculpture in Northport provides community members withanother opportunity to support an artistic project while commemorating the new millennium.
