Oversaw the development of a number of installations, from design through completion, leading both the design and project management.

2005-2006

Asymptote Architecture, Design ArchitectSelected Projects - Kiev Screen, Yas Hotel, Strata Tower, IV Research, LQ de Pury

Worked in advanced design development because of expertise in digital software and fabrication moving design projects toward construction. Lead a design team in the development of two winning competition submissions. Primary designer involved in the implementation of CATIA and interfacing of Gehry Technologies into Asymptote.

Curator, Rome: Continuity and Change, Yale University, New Haven 2010.

Currently working in collaboration with Tyler Survant, our work focuses on the cohabitation of animals, humans, and machines. Recently, their Manhattan National Park was the winner of the Grand Central Terminal Sketchbook competition with Moleskin & The Architecture League of New York. The companion animation is currently on display at the NYC Transit Museum until 2014. Currently, they are partnered with the Brooklyn Grange and U.S. Dept. Of HUD to develop an alternative green roof technology for increasing biodiversity in high density urban environments. The prototype, Transspecies Roofscapes, has been nominated by the Storefront for Art and Architecture for a New York State Council on the Arts grant.

ASYThe Strata TowerAsymptote Architecture’s Strata tower is a forty story luxury residential building located in Abu Dhabi, UAE. My role in the project was two-fold, handling the design development of the facade as well as directing the CATIA BIM model. Working in collaboration with Ghery Technologies and Front, we developed a series of algorithmic models allowing an incredible level of precision and automated fabrication giving us the capacity to machine directly from CATIA.

1Once Upon A House A house presented in seven scenes, wavering between artificial and natural. This series uses fiction to stage an architectural narrative about a single family house; a series of hypothetical “what if’s” using architecture and representation in story telling. A couple, love, progeny, an affair, resolution, and eventual decay.

San Diego ColossusThis study for a high speed rail station in San Diego, CA proposes an urban infrastructure of performance and spectacle. Acting as a monumental gateway to the city, the station uses a structural language of contemporary composite construction to elevate a series of grand halls over a ground level arrival / departure terminus.

The Exquisite Archive This hypothetical extension the the Beineke Rare Book and Manuscript Archives at Yale University, is an investigation into the thickness of figural surfaces. The project is an exploration into how those surfaces may be combined to create architectural poche. By integrating these topological surfaces into walls and vaults, offset by a series of generic spaces, a mass / void relationship is combined to articulate the primary functional spaces within the building

CerberusCerberus is a figure-on-figure bas-relief wall panel system using texture and surface finish to articulate and/or obfuscate a series of motifs. Using digital sculpting techniques in combination with controlled fabrication failure, this high density modular piece is an exploration into the potentials of rusticated surfaces. This piece was funded by Autodesk (thanks to Mark Foster Gage’s Disheveled Geometries Project) for potential applications of Mudbox in architectural fabrication.

Manhattan National ParkThis hypothetical project conceives of an imagined future in which Grand Central Terminal is buried underneath an artificial Manhattan National Park, left to be colonized by eco-bots in a not to distant future. This was an exploration into urban cultural infrastructure and the potential for a nature-city hybrid.

AnthropocalypseThe Anthropocalypse Project is an ongoing research project in collaboration with Tyler Survant. It is archival and projective as an architectural research project into the cohabitation of animals, humans, and machines. Recent topics of focus are the effects of high frequency stock trading on NYC’s real estate market and Ant Farm’s Dolphin Embassy Project.
