It is the Christmas season once again!!! Where did the year go so
quickly?
Christmas is a special time for many as they go away on holiday or
spend time with distant relatives and it’s also exciting counting
down the days till we can open presents. It can also be a frustrating
time for those that have to work while their children are on school
holidays, the in-laws that overstay their welcome, the worry of leav-
ing the house empty while on holiday, and the frustration of buying
the right present for a very difficult to please recipient!!!
For Smhart Security 2012 has been a very special year and we are very
grateful for the amount of growth that we have experienced this
year, not only have we experienced growth in our cliental support but
also in the number of staff members currently in our employ. We
also celebrated 20 years in business which also coincided with owner
Carl Trahms 50th birthday.
As the year of 2012 comes to a close we would like to wish all our
clients who are part of the Smhart Family a safe and blessed
Christmas.

A new five-star hotel and international conven-tion centre at The Boardwalk Casino and En-tertainment World on the Port Elizabeth beach-fronthas opened forbusiness aspart of abillionrand investment by Emfuleni Resorts, the East-ern Cape’s biggest leisure empowerment com-pany.
“This is the largest single entertainment andtourism investment in the Nelson Mandela BayMetro, and is a vote of confidence in the re-gion,” said Emfuleni Resorts chairperson Bon-gi Siwisa.
Emfuleni, which also owns the Fish RiverSun, has an effective BBBEE shareholding of52,1%, with an Eastern Cape-based BBBEEshareholding of some 35%.
Sun International South Africa owns the re-mainder of the shares in the company, andmanages both properties.
The Boardwalk Casino was opened in Octo-ber 2001, and in September 2009 Emfuleni Re-sorts was granted the rights by the EasternCape Gambling and Betting Board to continueoperating the casino for another 15 years.
A new smokers’ casino, which was built aspart of the billion rand investment, was openedin the middle of 2012.
The five-star hotel, which opened to the pub-lic on December 14, has 140 luxury sea-facingrooms, along with a 3 000 square metre interna-tional-standard Convention Centre, as well asan Africology health spa and restaurants.
Situated just 10 minutes away from the PortElizabeth International Airport and the mainfreeway leading into the beach front, The
Boardwalk Hotel and Convention Centre isamong the most accessible in South Africa.
International star, Jonathan Butler, will beperforming in the convention centre on Decem-ber 20 and 22.
“Jonathan was so impressed with the facilitythat he booked it even before it was completed,”said Siwisa.
Other improvements to the property includeadditional retail space, andaMulti-MediaMusi-calFountain experience, whichwas switchedonfor the first public performance on December 15.
It is overlooked by a selection of restaurants, all of which are either new or were upgradedby the operators.
They include national franchises, such asSpur, Wimpy, Dulce’s, Leonardo’s and Squires,as well as most of the top fast food brands.
According to Siwisa, the construction of thenew hotel, convention centre and other facili-ties “has delivered substantial benefits to theEastern Cape, and created hundreds of jobsduring the post-World Cup slump in construc-tion.
“The intention right from the beginning ofthe R1-billion upgrade was that Boardwalk bea fully inclusive project, and it has deliveredsubstantial benefits to the Eastern Cape.
The combined average of the tender BBBEEpercentage at the Boardwalk is approximately83%.
In addition to the hundreds of constructionjobs it has supported, the investment into TheBoardwalk has created an estimated 480 newjobs, she said.

A MOUTH-WATERING line-up of the country’s bestperformers has been secured to ensure only the bestentertainment for the revellers estimated at morethan 10 000 for the Ebubeleni Arts Festival at AdcockStadium on Saturday, 29 December 2012.
The festival boasts a strong and exciting line-up includ-ing the Parlotones, Stimela, Zonke, Theo Kgosinkwe, ToyaDelazy, AKA, MiCasa and five local acts namely: TakeNote; Blaze; Ciza Tha Journalist; Phakes and DJ Mthi.Another coup for the show organisers is that despite be-

blankets and picnic baskets and come and listen to goodmusic by Mzansi’s best musicians.Tickets at Computicket and Shoprite/Checkers at R120

“Transfer can only be taken onceall the services have been installed. However, we had to allow the con-tractor,whohad to completework onphase one before 15 December, an ex-tension to end January as the morethan 500 mm of rain that fell in Sep-tember and October saturated thesoil to such an extent that work onthe roads was delayed by fourweeks.”
Mulder said there were several as-pects which set this groundbreakingdevelopment apart. “The first is thatitwill forman integral part of adairyfarm and thereby offer the quality oflife associated with farm living.
“The second is that the village, thefirst of its kind in South Africa, willin time be largely self-sustaining andself-reliant. Houses can be equipped
with a battery of photovoltaic panelsto convert sunlight to electricitywhile rainwater harvested off theroof will be stored in on-site reser-voirs required for each house. Solarwater heating is compulsory. Eachowner can basically decide to whatextent he/she wants to “off the grid”or totally independent of the ESCOMpower supply.
“One of the houses being built atpresent has, in fact been designed tosupply all its own energy and waterneeds and will even convert organicwaste to cooking gas. It will operatecompletely independently of the na-tional grid.”
Mulder said Crossways Farm Vil-lage, which will ultimately com-prise 750 houses, will have its ownmunicipality controlled by thehomeowners’ association. “It willprovide all the services of a munici-pality; it will maintain infrastruc-ture, roads and public spaces, oper-ate an extensive security and sur-veillance system and see to refuseremoval and waste recycling. Andas it is directly responsible to home-owners, the quality of service andspeed of response are expected to bevastly superior to the current aver-age experience.”
Crossways Farm Village has beendescribed as possessing all thecharmand lifestyle of a country townof yesteryear but at the same time of-fering a modern urban lifestyle sup-ported by the most modern technolo-gy. A fibre-optic data communica-tion network twill provide everyhouse with the most advanced levelof connectivity. All the ducts carry-ing the cables have already been in-stalled as part of the services for the
first phase.Crossways Farm Village lies next
to theN2 (Exit 707) and iswithin easyreach of Port Elizabeth, Uitenhage,Humansdorp and Jeffrey’s Bay andSt Francis. It will offer convenienceshopping, extensive sports facilities,crèches and a modern clinic. One ofthe best schools in the Eastern Cape,Woodridge College, is an immediateneighbour and a fewkilometres fromthe entrance to the village.
Mulder said the farm constitutedan integral part of the developmentthe same way a golf course did in agolf estate. The existing dairy farmwith its studherd is fully operationaland generating profits. “The ownersliving in Crossways Farm Villagewill not only have access to fresh
milk in addition to a range of dairyproducts but also to fresh fruit andvegetables to be growncommerciallyon the farm.”
Since opening its doors in part ofthe modern sales complex on theproperty, the Crossways CountryKitchen restaurant quickly becameapopular stopover along the N2. Runby the UK trained chef Trevor Steynand his partner, Mika Venter, itsources only products of the area, while all vegetables are grownorgan-ically in the restaurant’s garden.
More than one third of the 563 haproperty will be developed as a na-ture reserve and linked to the neigh-bouring Van Stadens Wild FlowerReserve in keeping with the eco-friendly philosophy behind the de-
velopment.Mulder said Crossways Farm Vil-
lage was planned and designed to befor everyone. “We are looking to ac-commodate first-time homeowners, small and working families, profes-sional people, single parents, empty-nesters, some whomay have retired. To this end prices have been struc-tured to cover the full spectrum fromaffordable to luxury,” Mulder said.
The first house of 75 sq meter liv-ing space plus a garage of 25 sq me-ters is scheduled for completion onDec 15 and visitors are welcome tovisit and look at this unique concept. This house forms part of the “Cas-tle”, complete with interior court-yards, playingareaand fruit andveg-etable gardens.
