“My design was based on Space, I included
many different types of constellations in
my design. The shape of the bag was cylindrical and was made using black fabric, which related
to space. I also added lots of sequins to make it stand out.”
PGL Trip to Ardenne, France Meeting
Book of the Week Recommended by teachers, librarians, pupils and parents
Book Title: Hotel Silence
Author: Auour Ava Olafsdottir
Age Range: 15+
Why students should read it:
Winner of the Icelandic Literary
Prize, Hotel Silence is a delightful
and heart-warming new novel
from Auour Ava Olafsdottir.
Told with grace, insight, and
humour, this is the story of
one man's surprising mid-life
adventure of self-discovery that leads
him to find a new reason for being.
Jonas Ebeneser is a handy DIY kind of man
with a compulsion to fix things, but he can't
seem to fix his own life, sinking into an
existential crisis and losing all will to live.
To prevent his only daughter from discovering
his body, Jonas decides it's best to die
abroad. Armed with little more than his
toolbox and a change of clothes, he flies to
an unnamed country where the fumes of war
still hover in the air. He books a room at the
sparsely occupied Hotel Silence, and there he
comes to understand the depths of other
people's scars while beginning to see his
wounds in a new light.
A celebration of life's infinite possibilities,
Hotel Silence is a rousing story of a man, a
community, and a path toward regeneration
from the depths of despair.

the Joan Miro Foundation
and contemporary art
galleries.
The trip provided students
with the opportunity to produce primary source
material to inspire their Art, Photography or Textiles A
Level coursework and exam projects. They thoroughly
enjoyed walking around the historic alleys of the Gothic
Quarter, and were even treated to a spot of flamenco
over dinner. A great time was had by all.

HOUSE NEWS Kingsdale’s Team Andorra 2019 -
Reaching the Highest Heights
“An Absolutely Awesome time!!”
…were the words used by our students to
describe their amazing experience during a
week away in Andorra during the Easter holiday
period. The group consisted of an increasing
number of snow boarders, which has become
extremely popular in recent years. The group
stayed in one of the parishes in Andorra. We
were very fortunate to have three days of fresh
snow which made the skiing and snowboarding
experience even better. Overall, the conditions
of snow, the hotel accommodation, the choice
of food throughout the week, both on and off
the slopes, were first class. The evening’s
activities included ice-skating, bowling, a quiz
night and a General Knowledge Activity about
Andorra; all of which added to the thrill of
being on the snow by day. The trip was
thoroughly enjoyed by everybody.
More tales from the slopes next week!
