Research Drawing Skills Painting / Colour Misc

7 Complete 2x A4 pages of research on M.C. Escher.

1)Copy one of his animals – 10cm x 10cm – using pen is good

for this

2) Gather info on Escher – write 6-8 bullet points

Ext: On a separate page, create your own tessellation inspired

by M C Escher

Choose a man-made object and draw

with a focus on texture / Tone.

Use the softest pencil you can find

Find a food item with colourful

packaging (eg packet of sweets /

crisps)

Complete a large drawing of the item,

colour in carefully using pencil crayon

/ paint. Look carefully for the light

and dark areas.

1)Watch it all the way through (4mins)

2) Watch it again and take notes – write this in a

paragraph including your opinions.

1) Create a double page of research on Nick Mackman.

Include images if you can (you could draw one of her

pieces of work if you don’t have a printer).

2) Write 8 facts about her / her technique / work

Create more detailed drawings of

animals. You can draw your own pet, or

work from photos on the internet.

You can shade using a pencil, or add

colour (remember to look for light and

dark areas / details and textures)

Complete the proportions of the face

worksheet.

Use an A4 – draw the face shape to

fill the page. Add each stage (make

sure you also add the notes about the

proportions from the sheet)

Ext: Complete a detailed A4 fully

shaded self portrait

Divide an A4 page into 9 equal sections. In each

space, create detailed studies of interesting

lettering you find on products around your house

– eg sweet wrappers, crisp packets, toiletries – eg

‘Walkers’, ‘Heinz’, ‘Doritos’, Captain Birdseye’,

‘Burger King’.

Use colour if you can. Focus on the shape and

style of the lettering / surrounding patterns and

shapes. You can use pencil / paint / felt tips

Ext: Choose one of Turner’s paintings, eg ‘The Fighting

Temeraire’ complete the analysis sheet on this piece of work

this will create a detailed piece of written about the painting

you have studied.

Ext 2: Create a mimic of the painting you have analysed.

(Colour would be preferable)

Create an A3 page of drawings of natural

forms. You can find your own images /

objects.

Complete:

Line drawing, shaded drawing /

continuous line drawing

Ext: create a detailed large study of the

object that you would like to recreate in

clay.

Look at the work of Michael Craig

Martin.

Create 3 drawings of still life objects

in his style. Add flat colour / outlines

Create your own A4 or A3 still life

composition using the images you

have chosen – layer them together.

Think carefully about your

composition.

Add colour using pencil crayon / felt

tip or paint

Complete a series of small studies (20cm by

20cm) of your family watching the tv/film. Create

at least 3 different drawings

Focus carefully on the figure as it is seated. Try

to focus on showing the form of the body by

including detailed creases in the clothing.
