Kayleigh, is it too late to say [...........][.............]?
And Kayleigh could we get it [.........................] again?
I just can't go on pretending that it came to a
[.............................] end.
Kayleigh, oh I never thought I'd miss [.................]
and Kayleigh I thought that we'd always be [..............]
we said our...............] would last forever
so how did it come to this [.................] end?
Kayleigh! I just want to say [...........][.............]
but Kayleigh I'm too scared to pick up the [..................]
to hear you've found another [.....................] to patch up our broken [...............].
Kayleigh! I'm still trying to write that love [.................];
Kayleigh it's more important to [...............], now you're gone
maybe it will prove that we were [.......................]
or ever prove that [.....] was wrong.
Marillion
Marillion are a “progressive-rock”
band, formed in Aylesbury,
Buckinghamshire, England, in 1979.
The songs Kayleigh and Lavender are both taken from their third album, “Misplaced
Childhood”, which was recorded in 1985.
In 1988 Fish, their original singer (Dereck William Dick, born in Scotland) and lyrics
writer left the band, to be replaced by Steve Hogarth.
“By 1987 we were over-playing live
because the manager was on
20 per cent of the gross. He was
making a fantastic amount of money
while we were working our asses
off!”
“Then I found a bit of paper proposing an American tour. At the end of the
day the band would have
needed a £14,000 loan from EMI as
tour support to do it”.
“That was when I knew that, if I
stayed with the band, I'd probably end up a raging alcoholic and be found overdosed and dying in a big
house in Oxford with Irish wolfhounds at the bottom of my
bed”.
Fish gave the band a choice to continue
with either him or the manager. The band sided with
the manager and Fish left
for a solo career.

Lavender's Blue is an English folk song and nursery rhyme, dating to the 17th century, which has been recorded in various forms since the 20th century.
Although there are as many as thirty verses to the song, and many variations of each verse, most modern versions take this form:
Lavender's blue, dilly, dilly, lavender's green,When I am king, dilly, dilly, You shall be queen.Who told you so, dilly, dilly, who told you so?'Twas my own heart, dilly, dilly, that told me so.Call up your men, dilly, dilly, set them to workSome to the plough, dilly, dilly, some to the fork,Some to make hay, dilly, dilly, some to cut corn,While you and I, dilly, dilly, keep ourselves warm.Lavender's green, dilly, dilly, Lavender's blue,If you love me, dilly, dilly, I will love you.Let the birds sing, dilly, dilly, And the lambs play;We shall be safe, dilly, dilly, out of harm's way.I love to dance, dilly, dilly, I love to sing; When I am queen, dilly, dilly, You'll be my king.Who told me so, dilly, dilly, Who told me so?I told myself, dilly, dilly, I told me so.
