VIPMissiontoNorthernUgandaTrustFundforVictimsBoardofDirectorsandPresidentoftheInternationalCriminalCourt

ICCPresidentSilviaFernandezdeGurmendiwithTFVChairMotooNoguchi,TFVBoardmemberMamaKoiteDoumbiaandPieterdeBaan,TFVExecutiveDirector,arewelcomedbyprojectbeneficiariesduringavisitinnorthernUganda.

An unprecedented high levelmission, consisting of the leadership of the International CriminalCourt (ICC) and the Trust Fund for Victims (TFV), is visiting northern Uganda on 27 and 28February.TheVIPdelegationconsistsof ICCPresidentSilviaFernandezdeGurmendi, joiningatthe invitation of TFV Chair Motoo Noguchi accompanied by TFV Board member Mama KoitéDoumbia.ThepurposeofthemissionistobeinformedoftheprojectactivitiesoftheTrustFundforVictimsandits localpartners innorthernUgandaundertheTFV’sAssistanceMandate,whichallowstheTFV, a non-judiciary institutionoperating next to the ICC, to provide healing services to victimswhohave sufferedharm from themost serious international crimes, regardlessof thequestionwhohasbeentheperpetratorofthesecrimes.InnorthernUganda,theTrustFundforVictimshas

so far assisted over 45,000 direct victims and over 200,000 indirect beneficiaries (family andcommunitymembers).The VIP delegation visited projects in Gulu and Awach, where the Trust Fund’s locally basedimplementingpartnersprovidemedicalandpsychologicalrehabilitationservicestovictims.Frommeetingswithmanydifferentbeneficiaries,asindividualsoringroups,aswellaswiththeTFV’simplementingpartners,thedelegationcomesawaywithaverypositiveimpressionoftherehabilitationofvictimsasofresultofparticipatingintheprojects.Thedelegationalsocametorealise the tremendousscaleof longtermmentalandphysical suffering fromtheLRAconflictthat continues toaffect individualvictims, their familiesandcommunities.TheTrustFund forVictimsisthereforecontinuingitssupportundertheAssistanceMandate,seekingtostrengthenits positive collaborationwith national and local authorities to further increase the scale andimpactoflong-termassistancetovictimsoftheLRAconflictinnorthernUganda.TheTrustFundforVictims isactive innorthernUgandasince2008in18districts, fromSoroti intheEast toAdjumani in theWest, fromtheshoresof lakeKyoga to theborderofSouthSudan.Overtheyears,theTFVhasworkedwithmorethan25locallybasedpartners.AtpresenttheTFVisimplementing9projectswith8partners.InandaroundGulu,theseareAVSI,GWED-G,TPOandCVT.TotheEast,theyareNECPA,ADDA,AHSandCCVS.More information about the TFV’s activities at www.trustfundforvictims.org, or write [email protected].
