Thank you to the 8th grade parents who attended the Game Plan
informational meeting on Wednesday night. Classes will begin on
Monday, April 3rd at 8:35.
First Aid/CPR classes have been scheduled for all junior high classes on
Tuesday and Wednesday, April 18-19. This will take place at the
firehouse and be facilitated by Jeff Kampwerth. These classes will be our
4th quarter health unit, and they will take place during their regular PE
time.
PE classes will hopefully be outside next week, depending on the weather.
Please take your uniform home to wash, putting deodorant on
it to make it smell better is not the solution. Thank you!
THE BAND PLAYED ON
Wow, what a week! The Band played very well on Saturday. We earned
one first Superior, one Very High first and one Middle First. The students
should be very proud of their performance and all the hard work that they
put in to it. The volleyball kids made it back for the bus and won STATE!
You can’t get much better than that. On Tuesday, we had Mr. Darryl
Johnson II come and work with the band on “Bullet Train” which is a
piece that he composed. The band students were very receptive and
attentive. I was very proud of their behavior and politeness.
The permission slip and information for the Band & Chorus Festival on
Thursday, April 6 went home on Thursday. Please ask your child for it.
Their fee for the Subway lunch is on this paper also.
Our State performance for the Concert band is on Saturday, April 29th.
We will once again have to play early at 8:00am because the track team
has regional's in Nashville that day. I love that our students here at
Germantown work hard and are involved in many different things!
7th & 8th Grade: Both 7th and 8th grade have made it through two of the three
PARCC ELA units. I am very impressed by how diligently they have applied the strate-
gies we have covered in class toward helping them achieve their best. Next week, they
will get to continue demonstrating their mastery of the New Illinois Learning Stan-
dards on the last ELA unit of the PARCC. Good job, everyone! Keep up the great work
next week and rock the PARCC!
7th Grade: In between testing, students will continue reading and discussing To Kill
a Mockingbird. Next week, we will continue to analyze the progress of the trial and
how it impacts character development (RL 7.3).
8th Grade: In between testing, students will begin working on designing their own
theme park based on a literary work covered this year. Students will select a novel,
short story, or collection of short stories and research famous theme parks, pinpoint
what makes them so successful, and decide what attraction they want t include in
their own park (W 8.9 B).

Momentum next week, or as my Dad called it “Mighty Mo”.
7th Grade Science: The students will be teaching their individual animal
group to the class next week with games and fun worksheets.
6th Grade Science: Next week, we will continue learning about the Earth’s
stress as well as the types of faults that occur on our planet.
5th Grade Science: We will continue our Electricity Unit next week as we
are now gaining knowledge of the vocabulary and symbols used with it.
8th Grade Green Screen: The 8th graders had a good first week. Learning
to edit is a challenge, but they’re handling it pretty well.
The 8th graders have been put into 5 groups and given their day of the week to
work on. They will be writing scripts, as well as recording, editing, and
uploading their videos to one of our YouTube channels.
EVERSGERD’S WORDS
5th LA: Since this week you are testing and I will see you here and there, it
will be difficult to have a warm up and steady lesson. Bellwork from last
week will be due Monday. We will watch the movie The Lion, the Witch, and
the Wardrobe this week. I hope this will encourage you to start reading the
series of Narnia.
6th ELA: We will take our last PARCC test for ELA on Tuesday morning
from 8:35-10:30. This week, we are consistent with our normal time and
classes. We will start the period with DOL week 14. This quiz will take place
on Friday. We will start reading our new novel The Lion, the Witch, and the
Wardrobe. To start, we will read the historical note and answer questions.
As we read the first 37 pages, there will be a quiz over those pages on Friday.
We will be journaling each section we read and start to construct the journal
in which we will keep all papers.

A brief overview: With the first week of PARCC under our belts, I would like
to announce that the 5th grade students have given their very best effort in
showcasing their knowledge of the New Illinois Learning Standards. In fact, at
times I was almost to tears because of how proud I was of their individual effort
during each testing period. At one point, a student even said, “I’m smiling so
hard that my cheeks hurt!” What a great moment! And… it’s moments like these
in which the kids are truly proud of their effort and can denote the amount of
progress they have made over the course of the year that makes being a teacher
the best job in the world. Kudos to the first week and this fabulous group of 5th
grade students! Could not be more proud!!!
5th Grade Literature: Next week, the students will finish PARCC testing for
ELA. In between testing, they will participate in reviewing concepts such as
narrator’s point of view, figurative language, characters, and summary. They
will also bring attention to the concepts in which they feel extremely confident
in as well as those in which they’d like to practice more. This serves as a great
self-assessment tool!
5th Grade Math: Next week the students will begin the Math portion of the
PARCC. They feel SO very confident in their abilities, but are a little hesitant
about the time limit. (They only get 60 minutes!) One student even asked me to
call the PARCC people and ask for more time so he could showcase multiple
strategies! Needless to say, everyone in the class agreed! However, I reassured
them that if they are utilizing the most effective strategies (which we have been
practicing all year long), they would do a phenomenal job. It just makes my
heart happy that the kids are so thrilled to showcase all of their hard work!
MR. GLYNN’S SOCIAL STUDIES SCOOP
5th: We will be having a quiz next week. I will send home a study guide on
Tuesday or Wednesday. In our next unit we will be discussing the causes of the
Civil War and the major events of the Civil War.
6th: This week students will be exploring the Renaissance. Students will have
the choice of which Renaissance figure they want to study. We will spend a day
or two learning about their influence. Then we will spend the rest of the week
doing hands on activities that are similar to those that their Renaissance figure
did.
7th: This we will start exploring the causes of the American Revolution.
Students will be taking part in some hands on activities that will help illustrate
how the colonists were being mistreated by the King of England.
8th: The 8th grade class has decided that they want to create a movie about the
battles in the Pacific during World War 2. Next week we will be researching the
battles and planning how we are going to film their scene. Any props or other
items that you can send in is much appreciated. Some of the students have
asked about filming scenes outside of school. I am fine with it, as long as what
they are doing is safe and okay with parents. I will also be sending home a field
trip permission slip for our visit to the Holocaust Museum on April 20th.
Student Council
6th grade: In between PARCC testing, students will be reviewing previous
standards. They will primarily be focusing on the number system, which includes
all operations with decimals, division of fractions, and working with rational
numbers. There is a possible quiz/assessment this week.
Study Island– Any concepts covered so far!
7th grade: In between PARCC testing, students will be able to use the formula
of circumference and area of a circle to solve real world problems. We will also
be reviewing all standards with PARCC practice as well. There is a possible quiz/
assessment this week. (7.G.4)
Study Island– Scale Drawings, Two-Dimensional Shapes, and Three-
dimensional shapes (Any concepts covered so far!)
8th grade: In between PARCC testing, students will be reviewing standards
related to functions, angle relationships, and transformations. There is a possi-
ble assessment this week.
Study Island– Solutions to linear equations, Solving linear equations, Systems
of linear equations, Linear Relationships, Describe Functions, Understanding
Functions, and Compare Functions (Any concepts covered so far!)
Algebra: In between PARCC testing, students will be wrapping up rational
equations in Chapter 11. After this chapter is completed, we will be moving on to
semester review. There is a possible quiz/assessment this week.
