We’re here to help support you on your faith journey, so you can find
true peace, happiness, and purpose in life. If you would like to join one of
our parishes, contact any staff member, and we will be honored to
officially welcome you home!
New-member registration forms are also available in the church
entrances and on our website.
Please contact Deacon John in the parish office to schedule the baptism and the baptism preparation class.
Congratulations on your engagement! Please contact Fr. Reker at least 6
months in advance to begin preparation.
If you or a family member is homebound or in the hospital and would like a
pastoral visit, please notify the office.
When the heat and humidity rise to the tropical level (perhaps a bit of an exaggeration), I tend to eat lighter fare and smaller portions, and of course, stay hydrated. Perhaps a similar dynamic is at work in writing (or reading) a column, too. Little tidbits might be more palatable than a meatier reflection. So, I’ll bring you up-to-date on a few items and wait for more temperate weather to address weightier topics. Last week I was able to speak with the pastor of our sister
parish in Haiti, Father Harold Francois. It was easy to understand his English and I was happy to meet him over the phone. He is very grateful that we are interested in helping St. Lucy Catholic Church because his parishioners experience many difficulties and he wants to help improve life for them. A main concern is helping parents afford education for their children in the parish’s small school; some children go without much food and are hungry. It is also difficult to pay the teachers. Please keep all of them in your prayers and I’ll try to provide periodic updates from Father Francois.
Holy Family Church experienced some hail damage in a storm last month and after our insurance adjustor surveyed the damage, we have contracted with Heyn Brothers for this work. It includes the west side of the church building and the entire rectory, and will be covered by insurance except the deductible of $2,500.
You may have noticed that the rectory fence has been installed, basically completing all the renovations (except for a couple little details). Thanks again to all of you who have made these improvements possible, beginning with Bill Feder, Jon Hermanson, the Buildings & Grounds Committee, the SJW Men’s & Women’s Groups, and the HF Men’s Group. I hope to have a gathering for those who invested “sweat equity” and an open house for parishioners, perhaps after school starts (and it cools down). I am very grateful.
A closing for the house on the corner of Sibley and Blue Earth Streets is scheduled for August 1
st. Once we take possession, we will need to make plans for removing
the house and preparing the property for an updated playground/green space. It should be exciting!
At Holy Family Church, we have begun working with the Diocese of Winona to take steps toward the construction of a new entrance to the church that will make it more accessible and provide for a larger gathering space. Gordy Kuznia and I will be sending parishioners a letter with more information about the proposal soon. We have a promising future and need to prepare well for it.
As always, ask if you have any questions or want more details. I hope that I didn’t tax your mental digestion too much in this warm weather! Sincerely in Christ, P.S. As mentioned last week at Masses, I am selling tickets for the Loyola “Lucky 20” Raffle. If you’re not familiar with it, there are 20 lucky winners ($10,000, $5,000, $1,000, 2 - $500, and 15 - $200) and the cost is $100 per ticket. The drawing will be August 20
th. See me after Mass, stop by the Parish Office or give me a call if you’re
interested.
The SJW Hubbell Harvest Festival Big Ticket Raffle Tickets are now being sold! You can purchase tickets at the Parish Office or look for sellers after the weekend Masses. $5/ticket with a chance to win some great cash prizes, theatre tickets, jewelry and much more! There will also be mock tickets mailed out as well as inserted into the bulletin in the future weeks. Make sure you don’t miss the chance to support your parish and win some awesome prizes!

The TV Mass is one of the most important ministries in the Church. Many who are not in their parish church for Sunday Mass due to physical conditions or feelings of alienation turn to the TV Mass. For those few moments of the week, we touch their lives to bring them hope of not being abandoned. In short, the TV Mass brings Christ’s love and compassion to them and gives them hope and the concern of the Church. Though many contribute to the Mass, production costs are high. Your contribution to the Catholic Ministries Appeal for this vital ministry will cover costs to continue this wonderful ministry. Please give generously to the Catholic Ministries
Appeal. www.catholicfsmn.org/Appeal

If you haven’t met our new administrators, drop in for “meet and greet” in the Sohler Commons (Upper Campus) on Thursday, July 28 from 5:30-7:30.
Loyola’s Lower Campus is getting a make-over! We started with deep cleaning every nook and cranny, and now crews are painting. Students and staff will return this fall to beautifully painted tiles and walls accented with Loyola blue and gold horizontal stripes. Construction crews and volunteers are working every day on the Upper Campus, building a new entryway and a third Preschool classroom, updating lighting, installing new carpeting, creating new office spaces and an upstairs Commons, and repainting all classrooms in a warm cream with an accent wall of bright blue, orange or gold. Our thanks to all those who are pitching in and helping with these projects! We continue to need volunteers; please contact us if you would like to join students, parents, staff members, and friends in lending a hand. 507-388-0600
Loyola’s admin team will gather at the SSND center next Wednesday and Thursday for a Visioning Retreat.
