Pastor’s column
A lesson in unity“None of us is as strong as all of us”
A while back I watched a show about the animals inAfrica and how they survived where they lived.During this the Lord spoke softly to me and I decidedto share with you the lesson I was taught.
The scene was a lion approaching a herd of buffaloand they, always being cautious, immediately formeda circle of defense. After a short while the lion movedon knowing he had lost!
As this unfolded, I thought of my Bible and theScripture found in Job 12:7-10 “But ask the animals, and they will instruct you;….. The life of every livingthing is in His hand, as well as the breath of allmankind”. Thinking about how God instilled in theseanimals a strong sense of unity and they realize thattheir very survival depends on it.
Therein lies a lesson for us. We should as churchmembers, family and friends assume the posture ofunity in our day to day lives and business. When oneis weak he/she is protected by the rest. When one hasstrength he/she supports the other, when threatenedthe group comes together as one!
As I watched the lion as he tried to rattle the buffaloand figure out which one was weak and would makeeasy prey, the buffalo positioned themselves so theyoung and weaker would be in the center with thestrong and able on the outside providing a perimeterof strength and protection from the lion. The lion hadlost because of the willingness and unity of thebuffalo to protect one another!
The Lord then carried mythoughts to the scriptureagain:“Be sober! Be on thealert! Your adversary the Devilis prowling around like aroaring lion, looking foranyone he can devour”. 1 Peter5:8. When Peter penned thesewords of the Lord through His Holy Spirit revealingto Peter the danger in being complacent in letting ourguard down. That has not changed for us. Jesus said;“A thief (Satan) comes only to steal and to kill and todestroy. I have come that they may have life and haveit in abundance”. (John 10:10) One comes toseparate and destroy, and One comes to save andbring us together as one.
Which do you choose? If you have trusted Jesus asyour Savior and entered the fold of fellow believersyou will hear a roar but it’s only a moan of defeat! You see, Satan lost at the cross!
In Christ,
Bro. Ed

A new wayto make new friends
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spiritcomes on you; and you will be my witnesses inJerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to theends of he earth.” Acts 1:8
Jennifer is one of the friendliest people you’ll evermeet–and it just so happens, she especially loves tooffer her friendship to waitresses. Once every twoweeks, Jennifer and her Christian friends regularlymeet for lunch, but before they choose a restaurant, they pray. Once it’s decided where to eat, they sitdown and strike up a pleasant chat with the waitress. They learn her name and ask for her suggestionsfrom the menu.
Jennifer and her friends visit the same restaurant atleast five times, asking the maire d’ for the samewaitress. After so many luncheons, the womenbecome fast friends with the waitress and invite her tochurch. They hardly ever have a waitress turn themdown–who could possibly turn down these Christianwomen who have sown such precious seeds ofgenuine love?! Jennifer and her girlfriends have beenwitnessing this way for years and after visiting scoresof restaurants–and as many waitresses–they have seenfifteen women come to Christ.
This special woman is heaven-bent on gaining newfriends for the kingdom of Christ. We shouldn’t thinkshe’s so amazing, because she’s only doing what’srequired of her from Acts 1:8. What is amazing is hercreativity. She and her best buds not only have funtogether over lunch, but they make an outreach of it. Waitresses are, in fact, their main reason for gettingtogether.

Making new friends . . .continued from page 3No matter where we go or whom we meet, we canhave an effective outreach for Christ in ourcommunity. No, Jennifer will never organize a groupcalled “Eating Out for Jesus,” or plan a budget orprint up brochures. But she will keep on doing whatcomes naturally: gathering new friends into the foldof Christ’s fellowship. And you can do the same inyour neighborhood, too! –From Joni’s 2012 Planner
