JPN 312 (Fall 2007): Conversation and Composition

Vocab. Quizzes: 20 % HW #1 (Compositions): 30 % HW #2 (Radio Diary): 10 % Final Exam: 20 % Class Participation
(& Oral presentation): 20 %
Vocabulary Quizzes
http://www.kantango.com/ For each vocabulary quiz, I will upload two word
lists. The one named: (2007_JPN312_VQ*) is a list of
words which you are expected to be able to read (pronounce) and understand, but not to write in kanji.
The one named: (2007_JPN312_VQ*_kanji) is a list of words which you are expected to be able to write in kanji, in addition to reading and understanding.
The first VQ is on 1/18 (Thursday)
Compositions
You will write (about) 5 compositions through the semester.
The theme, the expected format/length, and the deadline will be announced in class and on the website.
After receiving the instructor’s feedback, you need to turn in the revised draft with the first draft stapled together.
Your compositions must be typed.
Radio Diary (Weekly)
Read carefully the radio diary instruction. You are allowed to skip this assignment up to
3 times without penalty. Your diary can be brief – the important part is
to make it a custom to listening to Japanese conversations.
The first radio diary is due on 1/23.
Final Exam
In writing. Mainly based on the material in the text book.
A “study guide” will be distributed toward the end of the semester.
