Sulzer and FramatomeANP in joint USnuclear ventureSulzer Pumps and FramatomeANP will provide the US nuclearpower industry with services forcontaminated auxiliary pumpsand seals for both pressurizedand boiling water reactors. Theseservices include onsite and offsite upgrade, repair andrefurbishment of any OEM'sequipment.

Framatome ANP is also investing$20 million in a new pump and motor service center inLynchburg, Virginia to becompleted this summer. The newfacility will greatly increase thecompany's capacity for upgrade, refurbishment and maintenanceof contaminated nuclear plantpumps, motors and otherequipment. The reliability andperformance of pumps, seals, and motors is critical formaximizing plant availability aswell as extending plant life andfacilitating power uprates.

Sulzer's vice president ofCustomer Support Services BobBluse said, "Sulzer suppliesreliable nuclear grade pumpingequipment, repairs, parts andservice. Our strength is intechnical know-how andexpertise in the design andoperation of rotating pumpequipment".

Buddy Jolley, Framatome ANPmanager of Pump and MotorServices said, "This agreementallows us to return pumps andmotors to better-than-originalcondition."

Abel GmbH has received ordersfor piston diaphragm pumps totransfer abrasive high densityslurry through a 2,5 km longpipeline in North Dakota, USA.

Abel manufactures hydraulicallydriven piston and pistondiaphragm pumps for highpressure slurry pumpingapplications for duties such as long distance ore/tailingspipeline transfer, minedewatering, autoclave anddigester feed.

Abel was in competition with

multi-stage heavy dutycentrifugal slurry pumps thatwere specified due to theirperceived lower purchase price. The heavy duty design of the Abelpump, means it should last four orfive times longer than centrifugalpumps doing the same duty.

Among other reasons, Abel wasawarded the order on the basis ofthe high efficiency of pistondiaphragm pumps and promisedlower maintenance costs.Commercial competitiveness alsoplayed a factor in the success ofthe Abel bid.

The Colfax Pump Group haspurchased Zenith Pumps fromParker-Hannifin Corporation.Zenith manufacturers dosingpumps and pump systems, including control equipment, drives and accessories.

In 2004, Colfax sales will beapproximately $22 million. TheCurrently, the Colfax PumpGroup achieves nearly 60% of itssales with its German companyAllweiler AG.

The chemical industry usesZenith pumps to produce

polymers and synthetic fibres. Itspumps move high-viscositymedia under high pressure andat high temperatures in additionto abrasive or corrosive media.

According the chairman ofAllweiler AG and vice presidentof Colfax Pump Group KlausStahlmann, "We plan to achievestrong growth with thanks to ourexisting positions in strategicmarkets like plastics, fiberglass, and polymers." The acquisitionwill allow Allweiler AG to offercomplete pump packages formajor industries and systems.

Power station pumpsfor China

By the of 2005, the KSB Groupwill equip four 600 MW units ofa power station near Beijing withstate-of-the-art pump tech-nology.

The contract of around 333million covers 12 glandless boilerrecirculation pumps type LUVAc.An integrated wet rotor with avoltage of 1000 each drives thepump sets. The input power perpump is about 400 kW, withoperating temperatures rangingat 365°C and dischargepressures at 220 bar.

KSB was awarded the contractbecause it was the company thatcould produce the largestnumber of reference installationsusing high-voltage submersiblemotors worldwide.

AxFlow Holding AB, have sold25% of the ownership of MellerFlowTrans Ltd to the currentmanagement (Mike Clewes andMike Conway).

Meller FlowTrans suppliespumps, compressors, blowersand hydraulic cooling systemsfor loading and off-loading oil, food chemicals and constructionproducts from tank trucks usedby Oil, Chemical, Food andConstruction companies.

Products vary from gases such asliquid petroleum gas and carbondioxide, through liquids such aspetrol, acid and juices topowders and granules such ascement, flour and plastic pellets.

As part of its programme todeliver global support frombases local to customers inevery region, John Crane hasopened another CustomerSupport Centre in the MiddleEast, this time located inQatar. Following just weeksafter the launch of a similarnew facility in Saudi Arabia, the new Qatari Centreprovides customers in theregion with local access toJohn Crane's supportnetwork.

Incorporating a workshopand fully trained John Craneengineers, the Centre offersengineering services, failureanalysis, refurbishment andstatic pressure testing, alongwith a round-the-clock on-site emergency servicecapability, plus assetmanagement and reliabilityoptimization services. GenuineJohn Crane spare parts areavailable from the Centre andcan be held on behalf ofindividual customers.

John Crane’s association withQatar goes back for more than40 years with over 6000 wetseals and 400 gas seal cartridgesinstalled in the country.
