SPORTS SCENES FROM 2012
Since Upstate Game Day launched in August 2011, Associate Editor John Clayton and I have heard many positive comments about the sports photography in the magazine. We’re appreciative to hear such positive response, so what
better time is there to have an edition devoted to some of the best photos of 2012 than the first issue of 2013?
As we decided the best way to go about this, John and I thought that many readers had already seen many of OUR best photos, so we reached out to the photographers who regularly submit to Game Day and asked them to send us their best.
Many of the photos you will see on pages 6-9 have not been published in Game Day, and were sent to us by pros Ed Overstreet, Tim Lambka, Pamela Dunlap and Steve Hinds. There also are several pictures by John, myself,
and a new contributor, Kevin Everton. We hope you enjoy. As there were too many for just one edition,
we will continue running some of the Best of 2012, in addition to all our usual stories and additional photos, in the February issue, which will hit the newsstands by Feb. 10.
As 2013 gets under way, John and I want to thank our readers and advertisers for their support in helping to make Game Day a success. We move into 2013 with excitement for the new year and appreciation of the past.
February will bring forth some great stories and sports photography, and some of this content may even be available on our website, upstategameday.com, before the print edition publishes.
Please keep those story ideas and photos coming and help us continue to make this YOUR magazine, with your photos and your stories.
John and I may be reached by email at [email protected] and [email protected].
We look forward to hearing from you. Thank you once again.
Happy New Year from Upstate Game Day.

Impact Sports International will host its annual Partnership Dinner on Thursday, March 7, at the Spartanburg Expo Center with special guest, NFL quarterback, Tim Tebow.
Doors will open at 5:30pm for dinner and the program will begin at 6:30pm. Prior to the dinner program, a private reception will be
held for corporate sponsors.Individual tickets for the

Corporate and table sponsorships are also available.
After a ministry presentation and overview, Tebow will join Impact Sports’ Executive Director on stage for a moderated Question & Answer Session where guests will hear first-hand about his experiences on and off the field.
Recognized as one of the greatest college football players of

A first round selection in the 2010 NFL Draft by the Denver Broncos, Tebow burst onto the national stage as he led the franchise to the 2011 NFL Playoffs for the first time in six years. Tebow became a New York Jets quarterback at the start of the 2012 season.

Additionally, corporate sponsor guests will have the opportunity to meet Tebow and have their picture taken with him by a professional photographer at the private reception.

The Westside Athletic Booster Association and the South Spartanburg Youth Association have merged to form what is now known as the District 6 Youth Athletic Association.
With the merger, the newly formed D6YAA will have 600-700 youth involved in its sports programs, said Johnathan
Evatt, the association’s baseball commissioner. Evatt served in the same capacity with the Westside association.
“The two boards were able to get together and come together and merge into one youth association,” Evatt said. “We really didn’t need more than one (association) within our area. . . . All around, we’ll have better coaching and more dedicated people who work to make this happen.”
The D6YAA, which his governed by a new nine-member board, will offer baseball, softball, football, lacrosse and wrestling. Evatt said the group will consider offering tennis and golf in the future.
The D6YAA will be holding registration for baseball, softball and lacrosse on Jan. 19, Jan. 26 and Feb. 9 from 9 a.m.-noon each day at the Dorman High School arena.
A Speed & Agility Class led by Ken Finley is now being held on Saturdays, 9 am to 10 am at All-Star BAT.
Fitness Classes are also scheduled at All-Star BAT on Monday and Wednesday afternoons and Saturday mornings from 10 am to 11 am.
