350 Government St was chosen for a mixed use building that will incorporate the rich historical con-text into its composi-tion. As an opportunity to incorporate new technology and typology into a rich cultural framework, my final design is an integration of sustain-able systems and thinking. My final design is an etherial, natural, and pleasant environment to shop, work, or move within.
CANOPYReplant missing part of canopy road, providing shelter and shading benefits.
ECOSKINAluminum bracing that supports an outer skin of vines, protecting from direct heat gain and providing a natural view.
LIGHT SHAFTSProvide ambient interior light
LIGHT SHELVINGProtects from heat gain while di-recting ambient light into core
NATURAL VENTILATION:
Using a GeoExchange cooling system, air is pulled through large ducts through the building into underground piping, where it is cooled, dehumidified, and pumped back into the building.
After a comfort threshold is met, the pumping stops, allowing the stack After a comfort threshold is met, the pumping stops, allowing the stack ventilation to occur and cool the building without mechanical assis-tance. This inhale-exhale process will allow for environment con-trolled HVAC strategies, cooling more in the summer and less often in the winter.

HISTORIC IMAGERYThe outer wall facade was an opportunity to create a dialogue between the active technology at work in the Smartskin system, and the passive technology at work in the lightshelving and green wall.
By utilizing existing historic geometries and datum lines, as By utilizing existing historic geometries and datum lines, as well as being sympathetic to the existing canopy road, the building makes use of historic organizational patterns to compose itself, but with modern materials.

WEST ELEVATION
My belief in the integration of science, technology, and ar-chitecture guides me in my journey to creating sustainable architecture. I am passionate about earth integration, adaptive reuse, and natural aesthetics. My goal in life is to show others how the built environment can feel like a posi-tive extension of the outside, and the benefits of a more natural living experience through design.
I would love to re-design the suburbs to accomodate mass transit systems and revitalized urban cores. I would love to create a sustainable city that had infrastructure for farming, manufacturing, business, and retail. But I’m a realistic person. Before all of that, I need to find an internship...
