16. SEMINAR ON “WHAT AFTER ENGINEERING?”

It has become a trend among Malayalees to follow the path travelled by everyone. This is evident in

the fields of engineering. Every engineer who passes out of a college pursue the same career, a

software engineer. ISTE Student‟s Chapter hosted a seminar for the final year students of GEC,

Thrissur that opened diverse opportunities in various fields on 4th

August 2016. The Chopras Career

Academy, Ernakulam is a renowned institute and it was an honour for us when Mr. Nishaf Hassan,

SCM Hub Director agreed to host a seminar for the final year students on the topic “What after

Engineering?”.

The seminar was very informative a useful as it brought into discussion, the various career

opportunities an engineer can pursue apart from IT Job. About 75 students attended the programme.

There are hundreds of industries in both public and private sectors that recruit engineers. It just takes a

moment‟s thought to make a huge difference in our lives. For example a job in KSEB or BSNL

wouldn‟t make you experience the pressures and tensions of an IT job. At the end of the one hour talk,

the students walked out of the hall with a new found freedom and determination that came from the

knowledge that they are not bound to follow the so called convention and join a software company.
