There has been a lot going on
at S.M.I.L.E. these past couple of weeks!
After getting back from Acadia’s Reading
Week, TnT got us back in the groove
with an Athlete Day theme! Focusing
on different sports and instructional
strategies, a number of varsity athletes
came out to show participants their
sport. Next up, Friday night hosted a
beach party and everyone was dressed
up in lei’s and hula skirts like they were
at a luau! The next morning Saturday
held an Olympic day theme to end off
the week.
After focusing on instructional
strategies in the previous week, TnT
decided to get back to the FUNdamentals.
They held a birthday bash with plenty
of birthday games played throughout
the morning! Friday went for something
more comfy by throwing a PJ party!
They made forts and dream catchers
all while wearing their comfiest PJs.
Saturday morning ended off the week
with a really exciting theme… it was
‘When I Grow Up’ day! As always some
local police officers, paramedics, and
firefighters came to spend the morning
with us at S.M.I.L.E. The kids had a ball
going into the police car and honking
the horn, getting pictures in front of the
fire truck and seeing how everything
works in an ambulance! Make sure to
check out the Upcoming Events section
to see what other fun themes we have
coming up for the next two weeks!

Paige Boudreau is a third year Kinesiol-ogy student hailing from Cape Breton. Paige is partnered up with Jacob Dowling from Cambridge and is dedicated in mak-ing sure Jacob has the best experience possible every Tuesday at S.M.I.L.E. The minute Jacob steps on the pool deck, he
knows he is in good hands and can do anything he puts his mind to, be-
cause he has Paige there by his side. With Paige’s patience
and encouragement, Jacob has overcome his fear of water and is even jumping into the deep end of the pool all by himself! Way to go Paige on being Tuesday’s February S.M.I.L.E. Instructor of the Month!
Christian MacKin is a 3rd year Biology student from Saint John, New Brunswick. During the first few weeks of the semes-ter, Christians buddy was unable to attend S.M.I.L.E, however when they did start work-ing together, tremendous effort and success was seen. Christian is extremely patient
and encouraging and always has a smile on his face. It can be seen from the
fact that we saw Josh in the deep end for the first time ever that the connection between these two is strong! On top of this, Christian is always one of the first people on deck and puts a lot of time and effort into his weekly reflec-tions. Congratulations Chris-tian, keep up the great work!
Friday Night S.M.I.L.E. is happy to announce Tess Dell and Caitlin Walsh as the Instructors of the Month! Caitlin and Tess have been working with Jennifer Pothier together for the past two years, and every night they do a fantastic job while having a blast with Jen! Jen always shows up to S.M.I.L.E. super excited to see Tess and Caitlin, and is very quick to tell them all about the latest Justin Bieber or One Direction news. Tess and Caitlin are great at coming up with goals that are tailored to Jen’s interests, one of which was a fan letter to One Direction! They often end up in
the pool on Friday nights, where they have a great time playing group games with Jen as she is so social. Unfortunately, February 28 was Jen’s last Friday Night S.M.I.L.E., but Caitlin and
Tess made sure it was a memorable night! We will miss Jen at Friday Night S.M.I.L.E. as well as Tess and Caitlin’s enthusiasm and energy. Thanks for the amazing work over the past two years, Tess and Caitlin!

Emily has done an amazing job working with Blake this year. She always shows up with a positive attitude and amazing energy that is contagious to her buddy. She has shown an extreme amount of commitment to the program by coming in each Saturday morning with a smile after working a full night shift at L’Arche. For all that she does and for the amazing progress she has made with Blake we would like to congratu-late Emily for being pre-schools instructor of the month!
Luke Edgar is a Biology student and is from the booming state of Ohio- go Buckeyes! He has the great pleasure of being paired with the one and only Matthew “Slip n Slide” MacKinnon. Matthew has had a challenging year as he has been transitioning from losing his long time buddy Amanda to graduation. Luke has come to S.M.I.L.E. each week with a positive attitude and a drive to push Matthew each Saturday morning. Luke has shown great initiative, asking great questions to both leaders and parents to learn more about Matthew
and strategies for success. Matthew has tendencies to resort back to known activities such as the Cube or Xbox Kinect, Luke has utilized
these activities as a way to get Matthew to try new things while at S.M.I.L.E. Matthew has been participating in a wider range of
activities since being paired with Luke. He even tried skating, which Luke was the driving force behind; he even brought extra skates for his buddy. Luke has been a great influence on Matthew who had been struggling this year with the change, he gives his all and pushes Matthew to try new things and be more active each week. Great work Luke and Keep it up!
