Wilhelm Wundt is often called the father of psychology

Born in 1879 he opened a laboratory for experiments.

His student E.B. Titchener introduced structuralism a theory that analyzed the basic elements of thoughts and sensations to determine the structure of conscious experience.

Psychologists study behaviour that can be observed and measured and mental processes that must be studied indirectly or through biological techniques like brain imaging. Psychologists have come to understand that behaviour and mental processes are different yet related, so each must be studied separately and in the context of each other.
