Introduction and ExamplesBackground

• 4G is a new system for problem solving There are two areas of innovation

1. Linking behaviour to the bottom line– Show a business case and ROI from

people’s behaviour and group dynamics

2. Predicting Relationships– Know, in advance, how individuals and

groups will ‘fit’ and how much or little friction exists between them

Page 4: Introduction 4G

4

Introduction and Examples Predicting Relationships• 4G makes it possible to

articulate and predict normally intangible behaviour and relationships

• Different relationships attract different levels of effort and productivity

• Notice the difference in Beverley’s position in Team 1 with Brian’s in Team 2

5

Introduction and Examples Metrics & Reporting 1/3• Different 4G Social Relationships attract

different levels of effort in order to function at their best

• By comparing the level of effort in a relationship with salary, it is possible to show how much money is spent on ‘Relationship Friction’ in order to achieve productivity

• Link behaviour and relationships to measurable and actionable improvements such as increased sales or performance management

• This enables the creation of a business case and a ROI story

Page 6: Introduction 4G

6

Introduction and Examples Metrics & Reporting 2/3• Using a formula to

calculate relationship friction, this idea can then be costed using 4G and base salaries

• The cost of ‘relationship friction’ in this case is 32.8% of total salary

• The assumptions;– Base Salary– Rank order of the 4G

Social Relationship– Knowing people’s 4G

Social Profile

Name Base Salary

Ajit £35,000

Beverley £70,000

Christien £110,000

Introduction and Examples Metrics & Reporting 3/3• As can be seen in the table

and diagram, Brian’s impact is very positive, even though he is paid the same amount of money

• The results;– Brian’s salary is the same as

Beverley’s– Relationship Friction is 32.8%

in Team 1– Relationship Friction is 26.8%

in Team 2– Brian’s start cuts reduces

Relationship Friction by 6%• How quickly is the return on

investment seen?

• Use the Relationship Friction formula to link relationships and dynamics to the bottom line

Introduction and Examples Driving Performance• As a product or tool, 4G

offers many unique ways to increase performance

• The table opposite illustrates some examples

• When combined, these take account of the wider context

• This also provides for a comprehensive intervention and ‘economies of scale’
