Thank you for your interest in BASIS Global and the BASIS Curriculum. The
following pages showcase why the BASIS Curriculum Schools network is one of
the most successful learning communities in
the world.

What is the BASIS Curriculum Schools Network? The BASIS International Schools in Shenzhen and Guangzhou are the first two international schools in the BASIS Curriculum Schools network. For our students, this means that the BASIS Curriculum is a portal to the world. In our classrooms, students are guided by our passionate, subject-expert teachers to collaborate with their BASIS Curriculum peers across the United States and China. Our students learn to love learning. They seek the ability to blossom into participants, rather than spectators, in the 21st-century world of commerce and innovation. As a result, BASIS Curriculum Schools have produced exceptional outcomes for our students by any measure: including U.S. national school rankings, international OECD/PISA assessment scores, and a consistent record of admissions to elite colleges and universities worldwide.
2
Our Teachers: The type of teachers we seekTeachers who love teaching inspire students to love learning. If you ask any BASIS Curriculum School student what makes their school different and special, their answer will be “the teachers.”
Educators in the BASIS Curriculum network believe that subject matter expertise and the talent to inspire students are the most vital combination
of elements to teach content knowledge, creative thinking, and problem solving at the highest international levels. Therefore, it is essential for every BASIS Curriculum teacher to possess these qualities.
BASIS Curriculum teachers are true professionals. They are held accountable for student learning, so they work collaboratively with their peers, sharing successful ideas and lesson
plans to ensure that everyone is teaching at the highest possible levels. They are also encouraged to develop their own classroom learning culture in order to share their enthusiasm for each lesson and inspire in their students a lifelong love of learning.
BASIS Curriculum teachers utilize creativity, innovation, and thoughtful experimentation to teach traditional educational concepts in a truly modern form. This unique approach creates an inspiring and engaging learning environment for students and is the essence of our worldwide learning community and the BASIS Diploma.
Why teaching the BASIS Curriculum is differentWe empower our teachers by giving them freedom to teach as they see fit. All BASIS Curriculum Schools utilize the BASIS Curriculum, but when it comes to instilling knowledge, teachers have the autonomy they need to be the most effective educators possible. Our teachers develop their own lesson plans and instructional methods, whether they are teaching art to Kindergarteners or advanced chemistry to high school seniors. It’s this flexibility and personal investment that keeps them challenged. They set high expectations and are committed to ensuring all students succeed. We provide the most effective classroom environments for our teachers to invent new, creative ways to help students understand, internalize, and remember what they are being taught.
“It is the creative partnership between the requirements of a rigorous, purposeful curriculum, and the desire of teachers to convince their students of the wonder of their discipline, that energizes BASIS Curriculum Schools.”
— Michael Block, cofounder

Our StudentsWe take great pride in the caliber of our students. They are high-performing and focused, while, at the same time, they are curious and engaged. However, these traits are not prerequisites to attend BASIS Curriculum Schools. On the contrary, they are qualities acquired and strengthened in our classrooms. Our students ask questions and are genuinely interested in responses from their teachers, because they want to learn.
Our Results: OECD scoresBASIS Curriculum School students outscored students in every other educational system, including students in Shanghai, the world’s top-performing system. The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Test for Schools—based on the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), an international educational survey—provides insight into how our students perform in the core subjects of Math, Reading, and Science compared to other educational systems throughout the nation and the world. This unique tool provides us with a powerful assessment of our schools’ performance and insight into student perceptions of learning.
