I am delighted you are interested in studying at BCUIC and Birmingham City University.
BCUIC is first and foremost firmly rooted in the city of Birmingham – a vibrant metropolis situated in the very centre of the UK. This prime position is further strengthened by the city’s cultural diversity, which reflects the College’s own unique blend of nationalities.
Also integral to BCUIC’s character is its flexibility. Every student who passes through our doors has differing motivations and ambitions, and our offer of an alternative pathway to Birmingham City University – including three entry points throughout the year – can be moulded to varying individual circumstances.
We understand that progressing to university is a significant transition – made particularly daunting in a brand-new country – which is why we are dedicated to helping each and every student grow in both confidence and academic ability through the provision of a safe, nurturing environment.
I look forward to welcoming you to BCUIC very soon.

Birmingham: the centre of the UKBirmingham is the UK’s second largest city, with a population of 75,000 students. It is ideally located in the very centre of the UK, making it easy to access other cities and towns. Its rich, multicultural vibrancy is reinforced by its extensive offering of international cuisines and businesses. Whatever your interests – shopping, sport, arts and culture or food – you won’t be short of things to do or see in Birmingham.

A beautiful place to liveBirmingham may be a city currently going through significant urban transformation, but it remains one of the greenest cities in the UK. In fact, Birmingham has more parks than any other European city and more miles of canal than Venice!
Birmingham’s green spaces and architecture are also steeped in literary history, having served as inspiration for JRR Tolkien’s famous Lord of the Rings trilogy.
An exciting place to studyWhile Birmingham is rooted in a rich history, it is also Europe’s youngest city – with nearly 40% of the population under the age of 25 – making it an ideal place to live as a student.
In addition to the University’s own dedicated resources, the Library of Birmingham is the largest regional library in Europe – so a great asset for any student. It holds world-class collections of archives, photography and rare books, as well as a million printed volumes – the largest number held by any public library in the UK.
And as Birmingham continues to transform, a large number of major employers are investing in the prospering city; these include Jaguar Land Rover, HSBC, BBC, Deutsche Bank and Kraft.
Birmingham also has its own international airport, connecting to over 140 destinations worldwide – with direct flights to India, Pakistan, Qatar, Dubai, USA and most of Europe.

700 international firms
A cultural hub in the centre of the UKBirmingham may be located in the heart of the UK, but once you enter the city, you’re surrounded by a vast array of cultural influences – including over 27 different nationalities and styles of cooking across the city’s restaurant scene.
Perhaps the most famous of Birmingham’s culinary offerings is the Balti Triangle: the centre of South Asian food, fabric and fashion. The city also has its very own
Chinatown, with a range of restaurants and cafés offering authentic cuisine – from Northern China all the way to Malaysia.
It’s not just food that gives Birmingham its cultural edge. Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery is home to the world’s largest collection of pre-Raphaelite artwork, and Birmingham Hippodrome is the busiest and most popular theatre in the UK.

Nnanyere Ezenwa Anamekwe, Nigeria“My advice to new BCUIC students would be to focus on your studies but also get involved – it’d be a wasted experience if you don’t. Make the most of living in the UK! Birmingham is a great place to study – it’s the UK’s second biggest city – so it’s full of different cultures.”

1. Halls of residenceLiving in halls of residence is a great option if you would like to experience the ‘family’ feel of student accommodation. You would be living in a large building with other students and sharing communal facilities.
There are two options within halls of residence, depending on your preferred level of privacy. You can share kitchen/bathroom facilities with others, but have your own bedroom; or you can choose to have your own kitchen and bathroom facilities within a studio apartment and share only laundry facilities and a common room.
Available in 2017/18:
HamCam (8.5-22sqm rooms)• Mix with students from other universities in
Birmingham – like Aston University and the University of Birmingham
• Benefit from a daily shuttle bus service to the BCUIC campus
• Bedding included (duvet, pillow and covers for both)
Weekly cost: from £89
Bagot Street (20.5sqm rooms)• On-site social lounge, with pool table
and Sky TV
• En-suite bathrooms included with all room types
• Just 15 minutes’ walk from BCU’s City Centre Campus
Weekly cost: from £145
Universal Student Living (15sqm rooms)• Superfast Wi-Fi, an on-site gym and
a TV room
• En-suite bathrooms included with all room types
• About a mile from the BCUIC Campus
Weekly cost: £155
800 Bristol Road (21-31sqm rooms)• Larger than average studio apartments,
including double bed, double wardrobe and en-suite bathroom
• Exclusive luxury facilities, including a private gym and on-site cinema room
• About a mile from the BCUIC Campus
Weekly cost: £193
More halls of residence options available at: www.bcuic.navitas.com/accommodation
2. Private apartment in the city centreIf you’d prefer to book somewhere independently and view the rooms beforehand, there are many private options available to you.
Some of our students choose to live in:
• Masshouse Plaza
• Beetham Tower
If you are interested in this accommodation option, we can help you with identifying appropriate properties. Email the Accommodation Team at [email protected]
3. Shared houseIf you don’t fancy living in a flat, there are options all over the city to share a house with other students. This could also be a more cost-effective option. Some of our students choose to rent a room in a house close to the BCUIC campus; whereas others choose to live closer to the city centre.
If you are interested in this accommodation option, we can help you with identifying appropriate properties. Email the Accommodation Team on [email protected]
These accommodation options are subject to change. For more information, visit www.bcuic.navitas.com/accommodation
