What is an Ipad ?

The iPad is a tablet computer developed by Apple.

It is smaller than a typical laptop, but significantly larger than the average

smartphone.

The iPad does not include a keyboard or a trackpad, but instead has a touchscreen

interface, which is used to control the device

It offers an ‘app’ store with thousands of free and paid apps with functions

ranging from games and entertainment to business and education.

iPad has a number of functions, for example:

- It can shoot video,

- Take photos

- Play music

- perform internet functions, such as web browsing, social networking,

etc.

Why have we opted for Ipad?

We opted for using iPad in classroom teaching because of

many reasons:

iPad is a lightweight device that can be carried in a small satchel.

iPad is considered the best way to experience the web, photos, videos, etc.

Hours of battery life. iPad can go 10 hours of moderate use without needing to be

charged.

iPad is very simple, easy and flexible in terms of usage.

iPad provides an eReader app with an excellent interface that flips pages like a real book.

Psychologically speaking, nowadays students are digitally-oriented. So, using ipad in the

classroom stitmuates students’ motivation and improves their achievement.

The iPad include Wi-Fi capability, which can be used for surfing the Web, checking

email, and downloading apps directly to the device.

The iPad's 9.7 in screen size also makes it ideal as an e-reader.

The iBooks app allows you to download electronic versions of books from the iBookstore

and read them on your iPad.

Since the iPad has a full color screen, it supports novels as well as art books and illustrated

children's stories.

Books can be read one page at a time in portrait mode or with pages side by side in

landscape mode.

The iPad includes both rear-facing and front-facing cameras. These cameras can be used for recording video sor conferencing with other iPad, iPhone, or Mac users .

We can run presentations from iPad.

Using Ipad for Reading Activity

Ipad is said to be one of the most alternatives to the books. As the case so, teachers can

make the reading activity so enjoyable with using ipad.

As most today students are technologically-oriented, teachers instand of using hard copy

books for reading activity, they can use ibooks to make sudents more engaged and enjoy

reading activity.

Using ipad for Listening activity

To boost listening skill for students and make them enjoy listening, via using ipad

teachers can make this possible; teachers can download recordings of the books

from itunes and make the students read and listen in the same time.

The students’ vocabulary can be expanded through repeated exposure to new words and by thinking about word meanings. Teacher may use a variety of apps to broaden and accelerate the learning process of vocabulary for students.

Using ipad for teaching vocabulary

Many apps focus on specific word meaning skills by highlighting word opposites, synonyms, and homophones. Many of the games can be played together or side-by-side.

My Story

Elementary students can use this iPad app to create e-books

complete with drawings, photos, writing and voice.

Simple tools allow children to become authors and

publishers.

e-books can be shared within the app or via email; they can

even be uploaded to iBooks.

With My Story, students can develop literacy, creativity and

imagination, as well as their storytelling skills.

Writing Prompt

This writing prompt app uses pictures, colors, words, genres

and different types of writing to provide creative inspiration

for writers and writing students.

The app also includes a database of 600 creative

writing prompts in the form of quotes, story openers and

writing exercises that can be used to start student writing

projects.

This word processor app for iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch allows

teachers and students to create assignments, presentations, handouts,

tests, and other types of documents that includes text and graphics.

devices.

Alphabytes For younger students, this animated iPad app is a fun aid for learning

the shapes and sounds of letters.

In addition to watching animated sequences with voice-overs and

sound effects for each letter, students can learn to write by tracing

their shapes.

Games for spelling and reading are also provided.

This phonic-based interactive game for the iPhone, iPod

Touch and iPad uses consistency and repetition to help

beginning readers sound out simple words and learn how to

spell the words they read.

challenged.

Grammar Up this iPhone and iPad app provides a quiz system with over 1,800 grammar questions

in 20 different categories.

Older students can use the quizes to help prepare for various tests and exams by

going through categories of questions or they can simulate the test environment with

random questions.

The quiz format and real-time error feedback provide students with the opportunity

to improve their strategies for grammar success.
