I. COURSE OVERVIEW:

In today’s competitive world, students need skills that will equip them for a fast-changing work

environment. Technical and communication skills are highly desired by companies and the need for

proficiency in English is becoming essential for many posts. 80 per cent of international business

communications written in English and most of the world’s trade and financial business transacted in

the language. Almost all the companies worldwide acknowledge the necessity of having workforce

able to communicate in English if they are to take advantage of the opportunities in the global market.

Engineering alumni need for ever-increasing range of skills to preserve relevance with the global

environment of the new century. Communication skills are a crucial component of this, acknowledged

by academia and industry. English language skills have also important prevalent status across the

globe as a lingua franca. Indeed, multilingual skills are considered a noticeable factor in the make-up

of the new comprehensive engineer. Communication skills are crucial for an engineer who pursues to

perform his professional practice in the global society. Engineering communication skills have several

essential elements such as the fluency in the English language and good presentation in conferences,

writing academic papers and articles or books and work communications. Evidence indicates that

communication skills have helped humankind to improve its societies on Earth today. However, these

skills have become restrained in the very discipline that has brought so many promotions. There is

abundant evidence that graduate engineers haven’t communication skills, particularly when compared

with the needs of industry internationally or in his academic life. In this context the present syllabus

enhances students understanding regarding language skills and elements. It helps students to improve

their contextual usage of language, both oral and written presentation skills, and Fluency accuracy in

language. PREREQUISITE(S):
