Assessment STAR
Star Reading and Math are computer-
adaptive tests that continually adjust the
difficulty of the child’s test by choosing
each test question based on the child’s
previous response. STAR Reading and
Math help determine reading and math
achievement levels in order to places stu-
dents in the Accelerated Reader and
Math programs. For every STAR assess-
ment, a child receives a scaled score,
which is based on the difficulty of the
questions and the number of correct an-
swers. Scaled scores are useful for com-
paring a child’s performance over time
and across grades.
