The Kerferd Oration is a free community event sponsored by Indigo Shire Council, La Trobe University and WAW Credit Union. Justice David Harper AM, of the Supreme Court of Victoria is the 2011 orator, and he will talk about: Sentencing: public perceptions, the reality, and their social implications. A series of four lead-in events have been looking at this topic from different perspectives. Three very successful lead-in events have been held so far, and Community Insight 4, The old and the new – where to from here? will be held on Thursday 21 July, 5pm – 7pm, at the Beechworth Historic Courthouse. RSVP to Joan Simms on03 5728 2747 or 0409 206 079. The Kerferd Oration will again be held at La Trobe Beechworth (which will be opened especially for the event) on Sunday 31 July at 11am. Tickets are not required, and no RSVP is needed. Doors open at 10.15am.

Calling all movie makers(Mountain Bike Park)

Notice is given of a Public Meeting to be held in the Supper Room at the Beechworth Memorial Hall, Ford Street, Beechworth on Thursday 14 July 2011 commencing at 6pm.The purpose of the meeting is to nominate no less than three (3) or no more than nine (9) people as the Committee of Management for the Beechworth Conservation and Recreation Reserve (Mountain Bike Park) for a term of three years.Further information, nomination forms and nominee declaration forms may be obtained by contacting your local Department of Sustainability and Environment office or at the meeting. Adoption of BudgetAt a special Council meeting on Tuesday 28 July 2011, the Indigo Shire Council adopted the Budget for the financial year commencing 1 July, 2011 and ending 30 June, 2012.Copies of the adopted Budget are available for inspection at the Council’s Service Centres located at Beechworth, Chiltern, Rutherglen and Yackandandah during normal office hours or can be viewed on the website atwww.indigoshire.vic.gov.auAny person requiring further information concerning the Budget should contact Frank Bonacci, Finance Manager, on 03 5728 8025.

Public meeting - Beechworth Conservation and Recreation Reserve

and 4pm.Participants will learn the art of film making at free community workshops, run by Amadeo Marquez-Perez, Co-Chair of the Asian Australian Film Festival, Artistic Director of the Bayside Film Festival and Managing Director of the 15/15 Film Festival. The workshops are aimed at people between 11 and 25, but older members of the community are welcome to attend. Bring your own laptop or camera if you like.
