When conducting simulations, another criti-cal piece to the puzzle is KVM extension tech-nology. Extenders constructively reduce risksof overheating and excess noise. Multi-displaysetups enabled by triple-display adapters andconnected to a Matrox Avio KVM extender – allfrom a single system – afford training officersthe opportunity to evaluate students one-on-one remotely, up to 2km apart, communicatevia headset, and even take over the controls atany time, if need be.

In relation to productive group training exer-cises, video wall controllers can work in con-junction with both KVM extenders and multi-display adapters. One system should serve asthe video wall controller, powered by solutionslike Matrox Mura MPX Series single-slot,input/output boards, while additional systemscan connect to KVM extenders to increase theoperational range between each remote, multi-display station and its host system. The endresult is a truly collaborative and immersivetraining environment that emphasizes efficienttraining practices above all else. Here, theextenders transmit uncompressed digital videoin real time from a given multi-display setup forthe unhindered evaluation of each student’sperformance in high-pressure situations. Thevideo wall meanwhile provides the teacher witha big screen on which to easily assess the per-formance of each trainee.

A good offense isn’t just limited to a gooddefence, but preparation as well. With the rightcombination of multi-display technologies, mil-itary visualisation systems deliver the crucialtraining necessary for combat operations. Warsmay be won on the battlefield, but they beginwith what is learned in a classroom.

Fuse Training and Leisure

Performance underpressure is all aboutmaking the right deci-sions faster than you opponent and subse-quently act without hesitation to stay ahead inthe loop. Recent research documents thegamer generations augmented decision mak-ing. First-shooter and flight-sim gamers makesmore correct decisions per second, their abilityto record and compute visual and auditoryinformation is higher and their brains capabilityto calculate and evaluate probabilities in warpspeed is better. Add an enhanced tactical intu-ition and a stronger aggression, and you have awell-schooled operative at the age of 16. Butwhen it comes to coping with true stress andanxiety, there is no difference between therecruits of today, and the WW2 generation.Stress arises in the most ancient parts of yourbrain in response to sensory overload mediat-ed through you nervous system and the fivesenses. There is no irrational anxiety or fear inthe leisure lounge, no cocktail of strong neuro-transmitters to tamper with the mind. Trainingcoming operatives to pull through true stressand get ahead in the loop in an efficient andcost effective way demands true simulationstarting where the leisure gaming stops. Shiftfocus from gaming capability and frontal lobetraining already achieved at home to sensorycentered training facilities and doctrines com-plementing the existing leisure time training. Hithard and deep in the primitive parts of the brainat work, at let the leisure activities take care ofthe fun stuff. At Metrik Simulation we made thatshift three years ago with the design of the THESTREET and STRESSLOAD RIOT ARENA, twoturnkey facilities 100% dedicated to multivari-ate sensory stimulation. This year came theSTRESSLOAD consultancy service and next inthe pipeline is a combined leisure - work train-ing concept called STRESSLOAD Fusion, where leisure time gaming is coordinated withRBT in a true simulation facility matching thetactical and frontal lobe challenges applied inthe game scenarios. We strongly believe futuregenerations will welcome and be motivated bythis fusion of leisure time virtual reality and pro-fessional training in true simulation.

Simulation Training Solutions SpanningMultiple Displays and Technologies

Advantages to military visualization systemsarise even in the lead-up to actual combat. Justlook at the educational benefits to be hadthrough simulations and training in general.

Virtual environments have been made anaccessible and practical place to prepare forreal life on the front line thanks to the latestgraphics technologies available today. Multi-display setups, enabled through the use ofmulti-display adapters, are especially vital here.Triple-display adapter solutions, like the MatroxTripleHead2Go, are ideal because of the result-ing degree to which the user’s peripheral visionis increased. The simulated field of view leadsto an immersive and effective military trainingground for recruits, either alone, in one-on-one,student/teacher training sessions, or in groups.
