(ICTE)
Courseoverview
ICTEisafourweekonlinecoursewhereeachparticipantwillexploreandappropriatetechnologiesthat
mayaddvaluetohis/herteaching. EachpersonwillselectfromawideportfolioofICTEopportunities
thosethat
are
appealing
to
him/her.
Using
acombination
of
three
teaching
strategies
(teacher
centered,studentcenteredandgroupcentered)participantswilllearnandapplyrelevantsolutionsto
theircourses. Eachparticipantwillcompletearegistrationsurveywhichwillallowthemtodetermine
theirstrengthsandneedsforthecourse. Uponcompletionafacetofacelaunchingsessionwill
introduceparticipantstocoursemethodsandtools.

acomputer
with
aJava
enabled
browser,
as
well
as
aheadsetandwebcam(ifpossible).FacultieswhohavenotpreviouslyreceivedaheadsetfromCETLmay
receiveoneforthecourse.

This
course
was
created
to
help
faculty
keep
the
pace
with
new
technologies
for
education
and
improve
theirteachingwiththem.Dealingwithnativetechnologyusersisnotaneasytaskforfacultywhoare
digitalimmigrants.Itrequirescontinuousexplorationofdigitalopportunitiesandathorough
understandingofhowtechnologycanbeusedtoenhanceteachingandlearning. Further,facultymust
understandhowtoselecttheappropriatetoolforthestatedoutcome.
LearningObjectives
Atthe
end
of
the
ICTE
net
course
participants
will
be
able
to
use
selected
digital
technologies
to
improve
theircoursedeliveryandteaching. Proficiencywillbeshownbythefacultyidentifyinginstructional
needsthatcanberesolvedwithselectedandreviewedtechnology. Eachfacultywillselect,exploreand
proposehowtointegrateatleastthreeICTEintotheircourses. Fullintegrationoftechnologymust
includecorrespondingrubrics.
Learningactivities
Therewillbeaoneandahalfhourfacetofaceinductionsessionwherefacultywillbeintroducedto
technologiesthatwillbeutilizedintheICTEcourse.Duringthefourweeksfollowing,therewillbeonline
interactionamongparticipantsandfacilitatorsbyusingthefollowingtypeofweeklyactivities:
Expositoryactivities/teachercentered:Therewillbeweeklymultimediapresentationaboutaselectedtechnologiestobediscussedinanasynchronousforum.Discussionwillbegroundedon
eachpersonsteaching,nottheoretical;atleasttwopostingsaccordingtoTIGERrubric(see
appendix1).
Activelearningactivities/studentcenteredactivities:AscavengerhuntactivitywillbeimplementedbyeachparticipantinregardwithanICTEofhis/herinterestandfindingswillbe
postedinapersonalblog.APBR(PersonalBlogRubric)willbeusedtoassessqualityofblog
posting(seeappendix2).
Interactiveactivities/groupcenteredactivities:SmallgroupsofpeoplewhohaveatleastonehourincommonavailableperweekwilltalkoninternetaboutanICTEthatatleastoneofthe
groupmembersisfamiliar.LessonslearnedfromtheweeklyICTEwillbesharedbygroupsusing
awikispace.TherewillbeaGWR(GroupWikiRubric)available(seeappendix3).
Reflectiveactivities: Attheendofeachweekparticipantswillpostashortreflectionbasedonhis/herweeklyexperienceinacourseblog.Ametareflection(reflectionaboutpastweek
reflections)willbepostedatthebeginningofthenextweek,inthesameblog.
