Greenland
Small isolated settlements are very spe-
cial in Greenland and everyday life has a
different pace. Greenlandic people most-
ly lived in small settlements along the
coast until today’s generation. After
breakfast this morning you head out by
boat to the traditional settlement of
Ooseestsut which lies in an idyllic set-
ting and is not accessible by road. Even
with its tiny population it has a its own
church, school and restaurant. Its struc-
tures reflect Dutch colonial times when
Dutch whale hunters and their families
were the principal residents. This even-
ing a wonderful tour highlight is a mid-
night cruise on Ice Fjord. The midnight
sun lasts from the end of May until the
end of July. Sailing at night with the sun
still above the horizon is a fascinating
and unique experience as the icebergs
are illuminated in a display of pastel
colours. They are extraordinarily beauti-
ful in any kind of weather.
