UltrasonicStroke Screening

SystemDOPSCAN™ is an ultrasonic, Doppler, arterial scanningsystem for early detection of potential stroke conditions.

It provides a noninvasive evaluation of the carotidbifurcation and other peripheral arteries to indicate thelocation and severity of arterial insufficiency andplaquing. It is a valuable supplement to X-ray angiography.

The simplicity and safety permit a physician toeasily follow the process of plaquing or a patient'sprogress after arterial surgery.

The DOPSCAN™ system is unique in that it providesa set of permanent exam records consisting of:(1) Mapped image of the carotid bifurcation, (2) Stripchart recordings showing pulsatile velocity waveformsin forward or reverse flow, and (3) Magnetic taperecordings of the customary Doppler flow sounds, which present the flow information in aural form alongwith the operator's commentary.

The Stroke Council of theAmerican Heart Associationin association with the Cere-brovascular Surgery Sectionof the American Associationof Neurological Surgeons,The Canadian Stroke Societyof The Canadian Heart Foun-dation and The Society forVascular Surgery is pleasedto announce the 5th Interna-tional Joint Conference onStroke and Cerebral Circula-tion.

This is an open meeting, whose purpose is to providea common forum for the pre-sentation of material relatingto all aspects of cerebrovas-cular disease and the physi-ology and pathology of thecerebral circulation. Ab-stracts dealing with the clini-cal or experimental aspectsof the pathogenesis, diagno-sis, medical and surgicalmanagement of vascular dis-ease of the brain and spinalcord are welcome.

Physicians and investigatorsinterested in diseases of thecerebral circulation and thephysiology and pathologicalchanges in the cerebral cir-culation are encouraged tosubmit abstracts to the Pro-gram Committee for consid-eration to be presented atthat meeting. Abstracts ac-cepted for presentation willbe published in the January1980 issue of the journalStroke of the American HeartAssociation.
