For The Good . . . One of the most outstanding features for Which
State has been commended on the campuses of other colleges has been our well planned and well organized assembly system. Our assembly program is still outstanding, but it is doubtful how commendable it may be. These assemblies are rapidly degenerating into farces. . .
The well thought-out general meetings of the past are gradually becoming obsolete and are being replaced by public exhibitions by personalities. It seems t ha t ' t he discussions of main issues are now tugs-of-war, with personalities substituted for the pro's and con's, with emotions becoming the ''strong man."
Much of the turmoil is caused by lack of formality and by improper use, if not disuse, of Robert's Rules. We aren't asking for perfection but we are asking our officers to know Robert's Rules. It has been done in the past. Many people feel that Robert's Rules are tying us up in knots, but it is our opinion that if the principles and values of Robert's Rules were fully understood, their necessity would be recognized. One point must be made clear—no amount of understanding concerning rules of order can solve any problem without cooperation between the association and its officers. There has been an ever growing tendency toward lack of respect to (he chair, which we feel can be remedied somewhat by an impartial stand on all issues on the pari of the chair. A mutual understanding must be reached between officers and committees, and the ueneral assembly.
In order to keep our assemblies from degenerating into farces there is a necessity for a clear cut decision on the part of Student Council concerning important topics which are brought up in 1'iidiy morning assemblies. When business issues arc introduced into assembly, let's do away with clashing personalities and insert in their place intelligent consideration of the subject and wise discussion of it. Only in this way can association officers, and association members do what is best "for the good of the organization."
Year-Round . . . Brotherhood Week ended on February 27th. We
have been urged to consider the principles behind the term "Brotherhood.' ' We have been uracil not to limit the spirit of brotherhood to one week of the year. Before we can cany the -pirii of brotherhood through the year, as it is Imped that we will do, we must begin with an examination nf our own f clings. Before we can work with cbil ilren and other people, we must have faced, out selves, the problems of "grouping, and "geneiali/-ing." We must begin a fight within ourselves against hearsay and prejudice.
As teachers, we will meet young people nf all backgrounds. We need to teach impartially. The feeling of brotherhood should not lie limited to fair treatment of sonic group that we do not know very well. It must begin with the people we meet everyday in the commons, the halls, the l ibrae . We can then extend this emotion of brother] | successfllllv to our classes.

I've been asked to write a column for this edition of the NEWS; And since there are no strings attached, the topics I may choose.
Although I have this liberty, I suppose I could refrain Prom including certain subjects that I challenge or acclaim.
But this is not to be the case since many need attention. The ones discussed in here today are those you often mention.

Rumor had it t ha t AD had considered the possibility of not doing Dan Rider's play of last Tuesday night. A few of the members felt t h a t the play might be objectionable to some of the audience. However, we feel t ha t those of us who were in the audience were very pleased to see tha t the old "bug-a-boo" of sex on our stage went down to defeat, The over-all performance was as st imulating as it was entertaining. There is no doubt in our mind tha t the point (or moral, if you Willi of the play was made very evident by a competent interpretat ion of the director and cast.
The philosophy of Existent ional-ism requires an expert 's in te rpre ta tion in order to come within the layman's grasp, and everything connected with Sat re , the high lama of this cult, is a difficult under taking. Therefore, it is with great pride that we point to Dan Rider and the excellent cast he chose, for in our opinion Tuesday night 's production was the most near-perfect don Bennet t and Walter Cote, job of the year; an excellent ex- freshmen; ( ' . en e r a 1 Committee. ample of cooperation and synchro- Donald Putlerinaii , Herbert Van nidation anion:' director, actors, and Glubi and K'.igctic Anderson, fresh-i echnieal c; The sets were a . men
