Welcome
The Chair for European Law, Public International Law andPublic Law is glad to announce that the University ofLeipzig will host its first session of the InternationalSummer School on Human Rights Protection under theECHR in summer 2019. This Summer School combines theacademic expertise of an alma mater which is both rich intradition while at the same time being a modern, forward-thinking institution with its unique location in a vibrantcity.
It welcomes students and professionals from all over theworld to analyse and discuss current developments andrecent judicial decisions in order to impart a profoundknowledge on the protection of human rights under theapplication of the European Convention on Human Rights.Particular focus will be put on procedural and practice-oriented questions. The workshops will cover a wide rangeof topics, from Terrorism, Slavery, Children's Rights, WarCrimes, Judicial Independence, the Freedom of Religion,Data Protection Rights, and "Push backs" at EU externalborders. Please find all the courses in the schedule on thefollowing pages.

Course Venue
Leipzig is a place where tradition rubs shoulders withzeitgeist. With a history going back over 1,000 years, thisSaxon metropolis has earned more than a few claims tofame – as a city of music, of commerce, as the site of thePeaceful Revolution, as Little Paris, and the Venice of theNorth. Moreover, Leipzig is one of Germany's mostpopular cities among students – and has been for a longtime. Leipzig University has enriched the intellectual andcultural life of the city of Leipzig for six centuries. Foundedin 1409 it is the second oldest university in Germany withuninterrupted teaching and research programmes.Numerous personalities of worldwide renown such asGotthold Ephraim Lessing and Johann Wolfgang vonGoethe have taught or studied here, with importantsources of inspiration for the development of the sciencesrepeatedly originating from Leipzig. As the StateUniversity of Saxony, it has made an importantcontribution to the development of the region. TheUniversity has gained a national and internationalreputation thanks to its wide range of subjects andparticular emphasis on the Humanities, Natural Sciencesand Life Sciences.
The Summer School courses will take place in one of themost outstanding buildings of the city: the Old StockExchange. It was built in the 17th century in early Baroquestyle to serve as a prestigious gathering-place formerchants. You’ll find it at the end of the Naschmarkt, aplaza right in the city centre.

2. Upon mail registration you will receive a request for payment of the Summer School Fee (see below).
3. Registration is completed upon receipt of the Summer School Fee.
4. If Summer School registration is completed, an confirmation email will be sent to the email address used for registration.
Early Bird Fee by payment until 31st of March 2019 = 250,- EuroRegular Fee after 31st of March 350,- Euro.
Fee includes Welcome Dinner, Lunches and refreshments and course materials (Accommodations and Breakfast/Dinner excluded).
The University of Leipzig provides child care facilities during the Summer School. Please let us know if you need it.
