RTÉ employees tostrike for pensionTHE RTÉ Trade Union Group hasconfirmed the two largest unions,Siptu and the National Union ofJournalists, have voted for industrialaction over pensions. A spokespersonconfirmed the group would arrange ameeting as soon as possible to decidewhat action to take on foot of theballot result. RTÉ said it hopes theunion group will consider invokingthe assistance of the NationalImplementation Body. Up to 1990,all RTÉ staff were in a guaranteedsuperannuation pension scheme.However, new entrants since thenhave been in a defined contributionpension scheme, which carries noguarantee of final pension.

Councillor helpedbusinessman planA PROMINENT businessman hastold the George Redmond corruptiontrial he used the Fianna Fáil chiefwhip on Dublin County Council, thelate Mr Patrick Dunne, to assist himin planning matters. Robert (Pino)Harris, who owns a truck distributionbusiness, said the deceased CllrDunne would ‘do all the planning forus’. Mr Haris was speaking at ahearing in which Redmond deniesreceiving Ir£10,000 from Mr Dunnerelating to a compulsory purchaseorder on a farm in north-west Dublin.
