Human trafficking and sexual exploitation
• The line between forced and voluntary prostitution is very thin.
• Prostitution itself is seen by many as an abusive practice and violence against women.
• In Sweden, Norway and Iceland it is illegal to pay for sex • The client commits a crime, but not the prostitute. • These countries consider all forms of prostitution to be
exploitative or slavery.
• Traffickers sometimes use offers of marriage, threats, intimidation and kidnapping as means of obtaining victims.
• Some migrating prostitutes become victims of human trafficking.
• Some women know they will be working as prostitutes, but they have no idea of the circumstances and the conditions.
