Dear Parents,
As soon as I finish writing this short Friday message, Ill be down to the HS courtyard to attend our second
Friday Night Lights event. Friday Night Lights is a new student initiative this year, led by our Peer Helpe
group. The aim is to provide an outlet for student talent and enthusiasm after school, on a Friday, while
combining school spirit. It is an opportunity for students to mix and mingle at school and prior to other majo
school events. Tonight we have the boys varsity soccer team in the semi final of their competition and o
course we have the second performance of this years HS production, Romeo and Juliet. If you have not ye
purchased your ticket for this ISM adapted Shakespearean masterpiece then you surely ought to get one a
soon as possible! There will be two performances tomorrow, a matinee and the final performance at 7:00pm
I hope to see you there!
I would like to thank all parents who attended parent conferences last Monday and Tuesday afternoon
Feedback from both teachers and parents has suggested that there was evidence of very healthy and
productive discussions about how to advance student learning.
At this stage of the year it is time to wish all our IASAS first season sports teams, soccer, volleyball and cross
country all the best for their competition in Singapore next week. This will be the thirtieth anniversary o
IASAS and combining all three sports at the same venue is going to create an IASAS sporting extravaganza!
cant wait to see the Bearcats perform at the home of the Singapore Eagles! In addition this weekend the ISMgolf team is competing in their golf exchange in Taiwan. While the IASAS tournament signifies the end of on
season it also heralds in the beginning of the new season. Try outs for swimming, basketball, tennis and rugb
will start next week and conclude after the October break. Also in November ISM will host IASAS MUN. Thi
event will be well worth a visit. The student speakers are truly inspiring and this year ISM has organized thi
event to be paperless and environmentally friendly for the first time.
I encourage the entire ISM community to get behind the bearcats and support all of these fantastic events.
Kind Regards,
William R.S. Brown

Dear HS Parents,
We are very pleased to introduce/reintroduce you to aexciting initiative developed last year by the HS GuidancDepartment in cooperation with the HS Administration:
The Bearcat Career
Experience Program
As we all know well, high school for students is (among manthings) a time of self-discovery. It is a time where our studentbegin to better acknowledge their aptitudes/likes, where thehone their strengths and where they begin to sort through tharather complicated map known as their educational and futurcareer path. Unfortunately, it is often a map with gapbetween what they learn in their academic classrooms anthe real world their teachers are working to prepare them for
In short, we hope to help bridge that gap for some of oustudents through a five-day summer internship (June 4t
8th, 2012) with various companies in the Metro Manila area
Last year we were very fortunate to place over 60 ISM higschool students with 14 companies (including Alaska MilkAsian Development Bank (ADB), 3M, and Makati MedicaCenter to name a few) in the Metro Manila area. This year, wdefinitely feel those numbers could increase. However, iorder to make this a reality, we need reputable companiefrom a variety of industries to form partnerships with us antake part.
As parents of our dedicated and motivated HS students, yomay own, be employed by, or know of a company interested i
supporting this very worthwhile endeavor. We ask for yousupport in helping us develop potential Career Experienceplacements and subsequently, lasting positive relationshipwith companies in the Metro Manila area.
We ask that you take time to reflect on this important initiativ(currently in its 2
ndyear) and its value for our ISM community
If you are in a position to take one or more of oustudents at your company or know of an interestecompany, please contact Doug McQuee([email protected]) in the HS CounselinDepartment.
Thank you.Doug McQueenHS Grade 9/10 Guidance CounselorSurnames A-LhInternational School Manila(632) 840-8664Our HS Guidance Blog
