Message from the High School Principal:Dear Parents,
I hope that your daughter or son has enjoyed the teacher professional development day today and has had time to relax, unwind
sleep or catch up on home work and assignments. Many students of course were here at school volunteering their services to th
smooth and efficient running of the GINManila2012 conference. If you have not yet got up to speed on GIN here is a copy of m
welcome message from the GIN program. You will find below the link for the conference.
Mabuhay and Welcome to the Philippines I am delighted to welcome all GIN 2012 participants to this year’s conference hosted by ISM. When we were offered the opportunity torganize and host this conference we thought for, perhaps a millisecond, before unanimously volunteering ISM’s services. We knethat the Philippines would provide a wonderful backdrop to the issues that were proposed by Jean François Rischard in his book HigNoon: 20 Global Problems, 20 years to Solve Them. The issues that Rischard grouped into three areas: sharing our planet, sharing ouhumanity and sharing our rule book, can all be witnessed, with open eyes, almost daily within the Philippines. So the task that fell on chief organizer, Tom McLean and his team of teachers and students was how in such a short period oconference time can we open everyone’s eyes, not just to issues but also to solutions? I am confident that the plan to use Ala Atkisson’s “Pyramid Model” combined with Michael Furdyke’s insights on taking IT global will provide a stimulating lens to see globaissues in the microcosm that is everyday Manila. Of course for the organizers this approach meant only one thing; a further obligatiothat they must take GINManila2012 participants to the streets of Manila to witness “compassionate action” and also to use locaFilipino heroes in the form of Jurgenne Primavera and the Stairway Organization, to address environmental and humanity concernwithin the Philippines. I trust you will enjoy our keynote speakers. I know all of your senses will be opened during your one day ICARexperience with ISMs service learning partners. A conference like this takes a tremendous about of time and effort to organize and on behalf of all of you, I want to publicalacknowledge the work of Mr. Tom McLean and his team for an outstanding job. Enjoy GINManila2012 www.earcos-global-issues-network.org

The International School Manila Modern Languages
Department is pleased to announce its 2012 Summer
Language Study / Home-stay / Travel Program to Spain. This program is for students 14 years of age or older as
of June 1st. It aims to develop students’ language
proficiency and to broaden their cultural knowledge. Thisprogram is being offered in cooperation with Tandem
(http://www.escuela-montalban.com/index.php). We with
spend three weeks at the Granada campus and one
week at the Madrid campus. Students will continue
learning and more importantly practicing Spanish through
total immersion in classes and during the home-stay. The
Tandem school finds families for students to stay with,
assists in locating appropriate local resources for the
group’s activities, plans outings, maintains a list of local
medical and emergency resources, and helps with the
orientation for group leaders.
Students will receive Spanish classes each morning that
include language and culture subjects and prepare
students for cultural visits. The cultural program will take
place in the afternoons/evenings and will be made up of
various supervised activities that take advantage of the
unique environment while taking into account the
individual interests of the students. Cultural activities
include things such as preparing paella, guided tours of
historical buildings, towns and museums, watching
flamenco dancing, visiting hot water springs, beach trips,
horseback riding, etc.
The dates of this trip will be approximately June 2nd
–
30th, 2012. If you are interested, please contact Jennifer
Diaz ([email protected]) to receive more information.
Students are parents interested in this trip to Spain
should plan to attend an informational meeting at 5:30
on Wednesday, February 29th
