How to Use Social Media Marketing To Perk Up Your Ecommerce Business

"Privacy is dead, and social media holds the smoking gun." - Pete Cashmore

The entire world is under the rage of Ecommerce business, the sales figure touched $5.30

billion in 2014 alone. So many new Ecommerce websites that sell from baby products and

medicines, to apparel and electronics, are being launched. That being said, equal number

of websites have also closed down.

One major difference between the success and failure of these businesses is their visibility

on social media. The internet penetration in India is 311 million users and almost each one

of them is on Facebook. So imagine by advertising on Facebook you can reach that many

people in just a few clicks. The potential of social media marketing is huge and there are so

many avenues yet to be tapped into.

You as an Ecommerce entrepreneur should know the benefits of taking social media

marketing as a serious marketing channel other than the conventional marketing

campaigns. Here are a few points that will help you understand it better:

1. Choose your social media marketing strategy correctly

There is so much more out there other than Facebook. Pinterest is something that is

gaining a lot of importance currently. You don’t just have to be present, you need to be

active as well on which ever platform you choose to use. This will help you increase your

customer base, interact with them, take their opinion amongst many other things you can

use it for.

2. Content can work wonders, so give it due prominence

According to Erin Bury “Don’t say anything online that you wouldn’t want plastered on a

billboard with your face (or logo) on it.” What you say, and the way you put it online is the

most important thing that connects your existing and potential customers with you. So you

have to be very careful about the content you post.

3. Targeting- choose a needle from a hay stack

Facebook gives you so much power to show your ad that you can select the time of the day

you want to people to see it, demographics, age group, gender, you can select the most

niche category for your product.

4. Instantly update and inform your customers

Launch of a new product, contests, offers are just some of the things that you can inform

your customers about. The more people know about it, the better the turn out which

eventually leads to a successful campaign.

5. Combine social media with all your other marketing strategies

Social media is only an extension of the marketing branch, so it has to be in sync with your

other marketing campaigns and approach. There has to be synergy in Social media and

conventional marketing in order to achieve maximum exposure.

6. Search Engine Optimization is a crowd puller

SEO is a tool that basically lures users to come to your website and increase the traffic

organically. This is done by selecting the proper keywords, original content, backlinks,

social media and images.

7. Interaction with customer is a must

Interaction means that even your customers can communicate with you, it’s a two way road.

Don’t be afraid of the negative comments, take it in good spirit, they give you an opportunity

to improve. The positive comments tell you what you’re doing right and what is it that people

are liking in your product.

No matter how well you manage your Ecommerce business all will go in vain if you’re not

visible. You’ll be out of sight out of mind social media is a blessing that will take your

business to new heights, provided you use it efficiently.
