• India’s largest Integrated Steel Plant Set up with the
help of the USSR in 1955
• Main consideration for setting up
was availability of iron ore at 90 Km,
limestone at 22 km & dolomite at 41 km
• Spread over 36 sq. km~9103 acres
COMMISSIONING
• Commissioned with the inauguration of the
first blast furnace by the first President of India
Dr. Rajendra Prasad in the presence of India’s
first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on
4 February 1959

PROCEDURE
• Billet pushed into the furnace by Ram Pusher Type Mechanism
• Heated for About 8 - 10 minutes for about 1231-1275 deg.C
• Further Processed In Rollers

• Heating Zone & Soaking Zone
NOZZLES
• Total 28 Nozzles of which 14 Heating & 14 Soaking are present

Steel Formula
• Fe + C + Cr + Mn (1.5-2% C)
Safety Precautions Before Entering The Plant
• Always wear a Safety Helmet
• Don’t carry Cell phones , Risk of Blasting due to gases
present such as Acetylene , Propane , Methane , etc.
• No Cameras
