Home Grown New Mexico creates events that educate and promote the
awareness of nutritious, home grown food. Home Grown New Mexico
creates venues where individuals and businesses that support home grown
food production can exchange products, ideas, and expertise. The vision is
to enable New Mexicans to take personal responsibility for growing, making,
storing and eating healthy food while enhancing like-minded businesses.

To create urban farm and food festivals that
bring together businesses and New Mexicans
committed to growing, making and preserving
their own food. Businesses will increase sales
and develop a broader customer base. The
community will develop a healthier and more
self-reliant lifestyle.
o Events are a celebration of locavorism,
kitchen gardening and urban farming that
focus on feeding families clean,
affordable, flavorful food while
increasing self reliance, reducing our
carbon footprint, and producing
sustainably.
o Events will provide demonstrations,
products, expertise and resources to attendees interested
in gardening, animal husbandry, home production of
goods and related activities commonly associated with a
self-sufficient lifestyle.
o Events will engage participants with music, art, and
contests for adults and children to create a fun and
entertaining experience.

husbandry, and home production of
food with New Mexicans who want
to take charge of what they eat and
their impact on the environment.

The all-day event will be on a Sunday in
mid-August 2011 in Santa Fe. It will include
retail booths, educational demonstrations,
and entertainment featuring local
restaurants, breweries and wineries.
Participatory activities will be provided
children and families. Tented pavilions will
offer presentations on growing, making,
storing and eating food.
Presentation examples:
o seeds (starting, varieties, saving)
o soil management (tilth, composting,
vermiculture)
o plant health (organic amendments, pest control, beneficial insects)
o water systems (irrigation, water harvesting)
o four-season gardening (greenhouses, cold frames, hoop houses)
o animal husbandry (chickens, bees, rabbits, goats)
o food preservation (canning, freezing, dehydrating)
o food preparation (making tamales, bread, jam)
o keynote presentations

The festival will target attendance from Santa Fe,
Albuquerque and northern New Mexico with a
focus on people interested in growing, making and
storing their own food.
Home Grown New Mexico will offer a
demonstration area for children and families.
Other types of attendees would include:
o Customers of healthy consumer goods such as La Montinita Co-op, Whole Foods,
Vitamin Cottage, Sunflower Market)
o Readers of Edible Santa Fe, Sustainable Santa Fe, Greenfire Times, Local Flavor
o Customers of animal feed products such as Feed Bin and Critters & Me
o Organic gardeners and consumers of gardening supplies
o Those interested in fine cooking at Los Cosas and Santa Fe School of Cooking
o Individuals with a goal of sustainable living that may be involved in EcoVersity or
the Sustainability and Green curriculum at Santa Fe Community College
