Over the years this directory has continued to evolve to suit our every changing economy. Not only are the local manufacturers highlighted but many of the supporting businesses are included. Also incorporated in this directory are various websites that highlight Huron County programs & services, sector profiles, business directory, business profiles and much, much more.

The printed version is a handy desk-top and portable reference of what is available in Huron County and complements the HMA website. I hope you will take the time to refer to this directory often, especially when looking for a possible supplier or even someone to network and share ideas with.

Meetings are informal and usually hosted at the place of business of one of the members. Meetings have featured a theme area for discussion such as: product labelling, government regulations, health & safety and emergency preparedness.

The Huron Manufacturing Association is an inclusive partnership of industry and related businesses that drives economic growth and promotes manufacturing excellence in Huron County.

Descriptions in this Guide are provided by the establishments. All information contained in this Guide is believed to be accurate and complete at the time of printing. This information is subject to change. The County of Huron assumes no liability for any damages or loss arising from errors, omissions or information given in any of the advertisements and listings included in this Guide.

The Manufacturing Sector comprises of establishments primarily engaged in the physical or chemical transformation of materials or substances into new products. These products may be finished, in the sense that they are ready to be used or consumed, or semi-finished, in the sense of becoming a raw material for an establishment to use in further manufacturing. Related activities, such as the assembly of the component parts of manufactured goods; the blending of materials; and the finishing of manufactured products by dyeing, heat-treating, plating and similar operations are also treated as manufacturing activities. Manufacturing establishments are known by a variety of trade designations, such as plants, factories or mills. Manufacturing establishments may own the materials which they transform or they may transform materials owned by other establishments.Manufacturing may take place in factories or in workers’ homes, using either machinery or hand tools.

Certain activities involving the transformation of goods are classified in other sectors. Some examples are post-harvest activities of agricultural establishments, such as crop drying; logging; the beneficiating of mineral ores; the production of structures by construction establishments; and various activities conducted by retailers, such as meat cutting and the assembly of products such as bicycles and computers.

A Manufacturer is: A factory, a person, or organization that produces goods or sub-assemblies from a more basic form (addition of value) for sale to a third party.

An Associate is: A person or organization that offers goods or services that supports a manufacturer or a manufactured product in an area other than the direct production of goods or sub assemblies. Examples: Professional advice (legal, financial, process etc.), advertising/marketing, installers/installation services, repair services.
