The Hemiwedge® Cartridge Valve is an innovative design that incorporates the
positives features of ball, gate, plug and high performance valves resulting in a
mechanically sealing, tight shutoff valve with a simple operation that providesoutstanding longevity and performance in a broad range of applications withvirtually no maintenance.
The Hemiwedge® Cartridge Valve is a thru-conduit, quarter-turn, mechanicallysealing design providing low emissions and quick operation capabilities in critica
shutoff applications. The product was initially developed with resilient seats, butfor severe services (with particulates or for high temperature) a metal-to-metal
seated version has been developed. The metal-to-metal seated version uses thesame body and bonnet as the resilient seated version and is factory tested to
the tightest leakage criteria in the industry (ISO 5208 Rate B).
The Hemiwedge® Cartridge Valve seals using a hemispherical closure member(Hemiwedge®) that wedges tightly against the seat to provide tight shutoff ineither high or low pressures with repeatable zero leakage (resilient seated
valves) or incredibly low leakage (metal seated valves).

The Hemiwedge® Cartridge Valve is
manufactured by Hemiwedge® Valve
Corporation located in Conroe, Texas, USA.The Hemiwedge® Valve Corporation plant has a60,000 square foot, climate controlled facility with
state-of-the-art machine tools and capable ofmachining both small and large diameter, close-tolerance products using a myriad of materials of
construction including various carbon and alloysteels, as well as high grade stainless steels,
duplex stainless steels, and high nickel / chromealloys. More importantly, the plant is operated by highly skilled machinists and
technicians experienced with the manufacturing of complex components andassemblies used in critical oil and gas applications.
The Hemiwedge® Cartridge Valve is only one of several patented designs usingthe Hemiwedge® design principle developed approximately one decade ago by
Soderberg Research and Development, Inc. The Hemiwedge® Cartridge Valvehas developed one size and pressure class at a time using SolidWorks® 3D CAD
Software, nite element analysis, and uid ow modeling tools, and in accordancewith a carefully developed and controlled design plan that includes rigorous
design verication and validation. The product is fully scalable. The Hemiwedge® Cartridge Valve is available with API 6D monogram and complies with ANSIB16.34. The quality system of Hemiwedge® Valve Corporation manufacturing
facility, located in Texas, is certied to API Spec Q1, ISO9001:2000, ISO/ TS29001. Product qualication testing includes independent witnessed re-testing
to ISO 10497 and API 607 5th edition and independent ow testing to determine
Cv and Ct values, as well as numerous trials in severe service applications.Hemiwedge® Cartridge Valves are registered in most Canadian provinces andhave ABS Type Design Assessment for marine applications.
crItIcal servIce solutIonsFrom upstream oil and gas production todownstream rening and gas processing, the
Hemiwedge® Cartridge Valve is uniquely suitedfor a variety of critical service applications.
Proven applications are found in a variety of
industries including oil and gas production, petrochemical, and mining. Specic installationexperience includes critical isolation shutoff
in gas gathering, salt dome storage, muddiverter, production manifolds, compressed gas,
ammonia, blowdown, steam injection, and CO2 injection.
The Hemiwedge® Cartridge Valve is uniquely superior to conventional valve
designs for critical service applications due to its inherent design features. Witha mechanical-seal in a quarter-turn operation, coupled with a xed core and
ability to handle both high ows and particulates, the Hemiwedge® CartridgeValve is well suited for many challenging emergency shutdown installations.
Development of Hemiwedge®
products begin with numeric-parameter modeling using
SolidWorks mechanical3-D CAD software.
Finite Element Analysis methods
are used to ensure the structuraland functional integrity of all
critical parts.
“Hemi’s” and other critical
dimension parts’ dimensionsare veried on a CoordinateMeasurement Machine (CMM).
This is only one of several qualityverication and validation methods
used in both development andproduction.

CARTRIDGE DESIGNThe Hemiwedge® Cartridge Valve’s dening feature is its ‘cartridge design’
whereby all the valve’s internal sealing parts are afxed to the bonnet allowingquick and easy serviceability and reducing expensive downtime during
maintenance.
This ‘cartridge design’ provides the ability to repair the valve with relative ease in
a minimum amount of time without any special training or special tools.
When the valve is isolated (de-pressured), simply removethe bonnet fasteners, slide the cartridge out of the body,
insert the new cartridge into the body, and retighten thebonnet fasteners.

MECHANICAL WEDGE SEATINGThe mechanical seal is achieved by rotating a hemispherical wedge (HEMI) around a central xed point (stem). The
increased offset of the external sealing surface of the HEMI creates a positive mechanical load on the seat at the fullclosed position. The positive mechanical load provides a tight seal at both low and high pressures irrespective of direction
of differential pressure.
FULL OPEN HALF OPEN FULL CLOSED
QUARTER TURN OPERATIONThe Hemiwedge® Cartridge Valve is a quarter-turn design providing low emissions compared to other valve designswith a quick, reliable operation in emergency shutdown and other critical shutoff applications. It is also easily adapted to
standard quarter turn actuation.
STATIONARY COREThroughout the opening and closing of the valve, the core (red) maintains its stationary position within the HEMI (green),
which directs uid ow straight through the valve with minimal impingement of the seat ring or side of the body. Thisresults in less erosion in the valve body and longer seat life compared to conventional ball valves, particularly with owstreams containing scale, sand, and other particulates.

Sizes are continually under development. Refer to website(www.hemiwedge.com) for current size availability.
Hemiwedge® Cartridge Valves
are available in a variety of sizes, pressure classes, materials, and trims. The basic design iseasily scalable. Additional sizes, pressure classes and features arecontinually under development tomeet industry demands.
MATERIALSCarbon steel (A216 Grade WCBand WCC), impact-tested carbonsteel (A352 Grade LCC), stainlesssteel (A351 Grade CF8M) arethe most typical alloys offered,
but other alloys are availabledepending on service conditions.Other body alloys include MonelK500, Inconel 625, Hastelloy C,22Cr Superduplex, and 25CrSuperduplex. Trim materials areavailable in a variety of alloys tomeet NACE MR0103 and MR0175requirements, and other corrosiveenvironments.
SEATS/SEALSThe selection of seat/seal materialis dependent on the service uidand temperature, and includesvarious common elastomers suchas Viton® and HSN, or plasticmaterials such as Teon®, Tefzel®,PEEK, or all-metal. Becausethe Hemiwedge® design has amechanical seal and the coreprovides protection of the seatface, seats are able to maintainlonger sealing capability.
OPERATIONLever or gear operated manualvalves are available. If automationis required, the quarter-turndesign is easily adapted to anyquarter-turn electric, pneumatic, orhydraulic actuator.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTSNeed a feature or requirementnot standard? Not a problem.Items such as extensions, lock-outdevices, special position indicators, custom painting, and specialtesting are available.
