‘What an awfully big adventure’, thought Oliver,‘but first things first, I need to have a wee!’
His mum was always telling him to“wash his hands”after using the toilet and before eating.
So, after using the toilet,Oliver Odd-sock put some soap on them and held them under the water.
‘That should do the trick’ he thought. Then he heard a little voice talking... the sound was coming from
his newly washed hands!

and ruining my big adventure before it even starts?’

At last they came to a clearingin which, stood a tree covered in glistening yummy food.
‘YUMMY’, shouted Oliver Odd-sock.
As he went to grab a strawberry-cream buncake, he hearda gaggle of giggling voices singing.
And it was coming from his outstretched fingers.

‘You patted Down-boy’, the germsgiggled, ‘and we love to hitch a ride
on animals – yippee!’
‘Well... I want to eat this buncake, but I don’t want to get ill.
If I was near a bathroom I could usemy new special hand washing powers,

‘We are germs - a bunch of rotters, who love to live amongst your trotters.
On your palms and around yourfingers, is the place we like to linger!’

‘By using my special portable soap.It helps to keep your hands squeaky-clean and germ-freewhen you’re out on awfully big adventures...’
‘Fantastic’, said Oliver Odd-sock, as he squirted the portablesoap all over his hands and between his fingers.
Suddenly there was a SNAP... a CRACKLEand then, a PUFF!!!
Standing in front of Oliver Odd-sock stood a boywith a two squirty bottles full of bubbles.
‘I’m Mr Clean Up and I can help banish the germs;so you can eat your strawberry-cream buncake,
AND continue on your adventure to rescue the princess!!!’‘But how’, said Oliver, ‘I’m miles away from a bathroom?’

After much walking, they entered a deep dark forest,
where treescreaked, owls shriekedandwriggly animals slithered across the undergrowth.
Deeper and deeper into the forest they went, until at last, they came to a clearing and in the clearing,
gleaming in the sunlight, stood a tall, tall tower!
BUT... at the bottom of the tower sat amiserable looking dragon!
Nextpage
Now, most dragons breathe out great balls of fire, but this dragon wasn’t.
He was sneezing and coughing out big dropletsof wet gooey stuff over everything!
‘Oh buzz off’, he said ‘I feel awful, I can’t stop sneezing. And none of the other dragons will play with me because
they don’t want to catch my cold.’
Oliver Odd-sock could see why.The dragon was sneezing everywhere.
From droplets on things all around the dragon, came a familiar sound.

‘Us grubby germscause coughs and sneezes
A perfect wayto spread diseases
Out we shoot, into the airWho we land on, we don’t care
Use your hands??Sounds good to usFrom hand to toy
– what’s all the fuss?
We’ll get around,no matter what
And infect you allwith slimey snot!’
Oliver Odd-sock didn’t much fancy being infected with the dragon’s germs, but what could he do to protect himself and get past the dragon?
All of a sudden there was a PUFF, and a LOUD BANG and therestood a beautiful girl and a funny bin thing with a rumbling tummy!!

HH
‘Hello, I’m Trisha Tissue’, said the girl, ‘and this is Mr Bin –excuse his tummy, he’s always hungry!’
‘Anyhow, we thought you might need some help?’
‘I need to get past the dragon to saveTHE PRINCESS’, said Oliver;
‘but I don’t want to catch his germs or get eaten!’
‘You’ll need a tissue, that’s what you need!’The girl reached up to her hair and to Oliver’s amazement,
she pulled off a pile of tissues and gave them to Oliver.Nextpage
‘Give this to the dragon’, she said,‘and then, when he next feels a sneeze or cough coming,
he can cover his mouth and catch the germs.Just like us Hygiene Heroes!’
‘Once the germs are caught in a tissue, throw it to me’, said Mr Bin‘I love eating tissues – yum yum, I’m always hungry!’
Nextpage
‘Hey – Dragon’, Oliver Odd-sock shouted,as he threw the tissues to the dragon from a safe distance.
‘Use these tissues and they’ll help stop you from giving your germs to anyone else– but put them into the bin afterwards – Mr Bin seems a bit hungry!’
‘Thank you so much’ said the dragon.‘Will my friends come and play with me if I use them?
‘Course they will! ‘
‘Oh goody gum-drops. Now, is there anythingI can do to thank you’, said the dragon?
‘Yes please. Could you let us past and into the towerto see if Princess Annabelle lives here?’
‘Well since you asked so nicely and helped meto stop spreading my germs, of course I’ll let you in.’
And with that the Dragon stepped aside, revealing a BIG OAK DOOR

The doorcreeeeaakedopen.
Up the rickety rackety steps climbed Oliver Odd-sockAt the top of the stairs was a curtain. And behind the curtain was a room.
And in that room was...
THE PRINCESS!!
‘HURRAH’, Oliver Odd-sock shouted –‘victory at last’
and he did a little dance to celebrate.
Nextpage
But the princess didn’t hear or see him....
she was asleep andsnoring!!In the princess’s hand was a note, it read:
Dear brave rescuer(s)I have lived in this castle for many years
because the germs outside this castle could makeme really really poorly
For me to leave the castle safely,You must first answer these questions1. When should you clean your hands?
2. What should you do when you need to sneezeor cough?
3. How do you wake a sleeping princess?(I’ve always wanted to do that bit)
Love from Princess AnnabelleP.S. Please wash your hands
Nextpage
So, having washed his handsthoroughly and answered all the
questions correctly,
Oliver Odd-sock kissed the princess.
Who woke up and gave Oliver Odd-sock a
HUGE HUG for rescuing her and said
‘You’re my hygiene hero’…
