What is GWP-Med
GWP-Med
- Is the regional partnership of the Global Water Partnership
covering the Mediterranean countries, established in 2002
- It aims at promoting action and exchanging knowledge on
Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) and
sustainable use of water resources in the Mediterranean
- Has 15 permanent staff in Athens, Tunis and Beirut
- Mobilizes 1,5 – 2 mil Euro/year
What is GWP-Med
A Regional Stakeholders Platform
GWP-Med is a Mediterranean multi-stakeholder platform bringing
together 10 major regional networks (government, river basins,
local authorities, professionals, NGOs, research institutes,
irrigators, etc), and over 80 other institutions and organizations
from EU and non-EU countries.

- Provision of technical support to policy makers at all levels
- Facilitation of regional, national and local dialogues on water
security and IWRM issues
- Implementation of demo actions, including local management
planning and practical applications
- Knowledge sharing

"Petersberg Round Tables on Transboundary Waters," was launched in 1998 and highlighted water as an opportunity for close regional cooperation from a global perspective through a series of Round Tables. Phase II focuses on specific challenges, such as furthering transboundary development and conservation programmes in smaller catchment basins of Southeastern Europe.
