What is DANTE and why it is important? DANTE project looks at how the use of information and communication
technologies (ICT) can positively contribute to the development of tourism in rural and remote areas.
• Information and CommunicationTechnologies (ICT) as key driver for the tourism sector with a particular focus to mountain and rural areas as “fragile” areas facing important challenges.

possibilities of outdoor activities, precious heritage sites and warm small rural communities who are offering tourists a different, quality experience.
Beyond the big tourism centres
Small actors, hotels and B&B owners, guides, outdoor activity centres and authentic natural or historical sites.

Tourism in rural areas
Tourism is a major economic sector. In parallel, the digital economy is said to grow at seven times the rate of the rest of the economy.
So, how can we best use these dynamics in rural territories?

Why ICT are so important for tourism in rural areas?
It helps destinations to promote their specific assets,
It provides tourists with quality information in a cost efficient way
It helps businesses to better coordinate and connect their offers, design attractive new products and services
It gives tourists the possibility to interact and share their experience in a proactive way (social media, smart phones…)

Objectives of DANTE
Ensure a better use and integration of ITC agendas into the tourism local policies in remote areas
Sharing of existing innovative ICT experiences for tourism development (to create a “learning platform”)
Local and regional tourism policies has to ensure competitiveness and attractiveness: the ICT can be a strategic element in this process.

DANTE Findings & Outcomes• Transfer of knowledge for the integration of ICT in the regional tourism
policy and development of SMEs in rural and mountain areas: transfer through good practices, workshops and study visits.
• Good practices catalogue and thematic guidelines
• Implementations plans (local political agendas ICT/Tourism + european recommendations) (8 public partners)
• Light pilot : New web platform

From theory to practice: how ICT are improving rural tourism
Pilot web platform assembling the innovative and successful elements of all the good practices identified in partner regions:
• use of open source CMS, with multilanguage content to manage texts, images, videos, event calendars
• integration with open data
• webcam system
• net sentiment component
• a community for tourists and operators
• the Mobile Tag system
• information on accommodation facilities and events (Booking system)

Light pilot allready implemented in the Province of Turin + possibility to implement it in other rural areas

How the new European strategyis supporting the development of ICT
and tourism policies? Bridging the digital agenda with the tourism agenda – part of Smart
Specialisation Strategies and Operational Programmes.
The launch of the new INTERREG EUROPE programme is giving new opportunities to develop and reinforce ICT and tourism strategies in rural and mountain territories.
