PTO Volunteer/General Information Handbook
2016-2017
www.grayhawkPTO.com
Welcome to the 2016 - 2017 school year at Grayhawk. Whether this is your first year or your final year, we are thrilled to have you as a part of the Grayhawk community and a part of the Grayhawk PTO. That’s right, you are already a member!
We are very lucky at Grayhawk to have such committed parents, and we hope you will find a way to use your talents to participate in the PTO and its many events, programs, and committees. The PTO’s motto is “Getting Better Together,” and we need YOUR help.
The PTO continues to honor its commitment to have fewer, but more effective fundraisers. This year, we plan to continue our four major fundraisers: Tax Deduction Campaign (ongoing), Fall Festival (October 21st), Lynx Laps (November 17th), and Auction (March). We hope these fundraisers will continue to raise enough to meet our budget so we will not need to add additional fundraisers.
Because of participation from parents like you, the PTO has recently paid for upgrades to the outside (Kindergarten Playground, Upper Playground, Basketball hoops) and inside (Front lobby, Teacher’s Lounge, Hallway painting). And in the past couple of years we added new programming (Fine Arts & Auction Night, Movie Night). Who knows where this year will lead us, especially with your help.
We also continue to pledge our support to the programs that your kids and teachers know and love (Art Masterpiece, field trips, Core Knowledge activities, technology, AR, Study Island, teacher training, supplies) plus some new ones, like Storia (introduced last year). Check out the PTO budget online at grayhawkpto.com to see the many things the PTO funds.
Please take a few minutes to read through this Volunteer Handbook. We have several newer volunteer programs available (library assistant, playground helper…) and committees that you may recognize (Yearbook, Auction, Copy Cats, Fall Festival…). When you find one that piques your interest, return your completed form with your student and we will connect you with the right people. You can also contact the committee chairs directly. Additionally, we have an opportunity for you to join the Executive Board for this year!
If you have any questions, please contact me at the email address below, or Jennifer Wood (Vice President and Volunteer Coordinator) at [email protected].
Thank you for helping us get better together. It’s going to be a great year!

Interested in making a tax deductible donation where 100% goes towards your child's education? You now have an opportunity to donate directly to the PTO throughout the year. In order to provide the same level of excellence you've come to expect at Grayhawk, we need to raise over $85,000 this year. This funds programs such as AR, Study Island, building improvements, after-school tutoring programs, Core Knowledge activities, field trips, classroom supplies, technology, Art Masterpiece, teacher training, and assemblies...just to name a few. In order to cover our expenses a suggested donation of $100.00 per child would be much appreciated. However we are grateful for as little or as much as you can provide. This donation can be made in one lump sum or incrementally throughout the year. This tax-deductible donation is completely optional. Our goal is to give families a variety of choices in order to support our school and the tax deductible program is one of them. This program is completely separate and not affiliated with the AZ State Tax Credit. In addition to participating in the tax deductible donation program now, there will be another opportunity in November to make a tax deductible donation to our Lynx Laps fun run. Both fundraisers are completely separate and any donation made is optional.
Thank you for making a huge impact on the students of Grayhawk!
