REPORT ON GROUND WATER INVESTIGATIONS CONDUCTED TO LOCATE A FEASIBLE GROUNDWATER EXTRACTION STRUCTURE IN THE PLANT PREMISES
OF ANJANEY FERRO ALLOYS LIMITED IN PEDABANTUPALLI VILLAGE. GURLA MANDAL OF VIZIANAGARAM DISTRICT
*****
1 1 . Introduction:
At the request of Managing Director, Anjaney Ferro Alloys Limited vide
application ID: CAE 1801636, dated 29-08-2019, Groundwater investigations were
conducted on 05-09-2019 for one day to ascertain the Groundwater availability of
the area for construction of feasible Groundwater extraction structures in the
existing plant premises. The total requirement of water for the plant is 170 KUDay.
The groundwater investigations have been carried out by Sri K. China
Babu, Asst. Geophysicist and Kum. G. Triveni, Technical Assistant (Hg) under
the guidance of K.S.Sastry Deputy Director and Sri B.Ramana Murty, Assistant
Director (Gp) and Smt. M.Sobharani, Assistant Director (H).
2.Location:
The present plant of Anjaney Ferro Alloys Ltd is situated towards 2 Km
South of the Garividi-Garbham Road junction and 2 Km West of the
Pedabantupalli village. The total extent of the Surveyed area is 34 acres. The
area lies between North Latitudes 18° 19' 27.82" to 18° 19' 34.1" and East
Longitudes 83° 28' 48.8" to 83° 28' 53.1" and falls in Survey of India Toposheet
No. 65 N/7.
3 .Topography & Drainage:
The proposed area is almost plain with an elevation ranging from 94 to
90 m amsl and gentle slope towards South East.
The surveyed area is influenced by the Minor Irrigation Tanks. The drainage
pattern is Sub-dendritic type.
4. Climate and Rainfall:
The area enjoys semi-arid climate. The area receives precipitation mostly
from South West monsoon and North East monsoon in different degrees. The
normal rainfall is 1038 mm. It is observed that the predominant source of ground
water recharge is rainfall, ephemeral streams and minor irrigation tanks around the

7. Hydrology:
The nearest piezometer established by Ground Water and Water Audit
Department, Government of Andhra Pradesh is located in Garividi Manda!. Pre
monsoon and post-monsoon Depth to Water levels (DTW) data recorded in the Garividi
piezometer during the last 11 years is shown in the Table-3. The depth to water levels
in pre-monsoon, range from 4.76 m to 9.69 m and post-monsoon depth to water levels
range from 0.52 m to 4.2 m with an average pre-monsoon DTWL of 7.64 m and
average post monsoon DTW of 2.14 m. It is observed that both pre and post monsoon
average DTW' s are less than 8.0 m and greater than 3.0m.

The interpreted data of sounding curves revealed that top layer resistivity is in
the range of 12 to 105 ohm-m with thickness of 1.2 to 1.5 m, which indicates the
presence of silty soil. The top layer is followed by 2nd layer with its resistivity represents
as weathered zone ranging from 10.5 to 18 ohm-m with thickness varies from 2.2 m to 3
m. The 3rd layer with resistivity ranging from 12 to 85 ohm-m with thickness varies from
6.5 to 6.7 m indicating that it is a semi weathered zone. This layer in turn followed by 4th
layer with higher order resistivity recorded at VES-1 is 189 ohm-m extended to infinitive
thickness. But at VES-2 the resistivity and thickness of the 4th layer recorded as 45.5
ohm-m and 24 m respectively indicates fractured khondalite suite of rocks and is
followed by electrical basement. The total thickness of gee-electrical section at VES-1,
conducted nearby Granite exposures is 9.9 m. and the total thickness of gee-electrical
section at VES-2, conducted adjacent to contact zone recorded as 35.2 m followed by
- gee-electrical basement.

9. Quality of Ground Water:
Two water samples are collected from the existing Bore wells at Anjaney Ferro
Alloys Limited and sent it to the laboratory at the O/o Deputy Director, Grou nd Water
and Water Audit Department, Visakhapatnam for chemical a nalysis. The data reveals
that the quality of water is good .
