What roles will weneed to fill in order to produce the show? What skills and knowledge will we need? What do weknow, if anything, about television broadcasting? Can we make it whatever we want? "Underwater Explorations" will be a weekly, 30-minute studioproduction featuring guests supplying their own video or film footage oftheir underwater exploits around the world.
The proposed host for the show is Dr. Steve Adams, who has an
established track record with us and WCFX-TV for doing marinespecials. Each week he will have a new guest with new experiences.
Given the numerous people within our seacoast broadcast area whoregularly document their diving expeditions, we will have no troublefinding guests with exciting footage and stories to tell. In particular wewant to feature in-studio close-ups of artifacts that have been salvagedduring underwater expeditions.
Initially, two guests who have documented the discovery of sunkenships are interested in appearing. In addition, we want to featureexperts in marine life from the local university who have dramatic andcolorful digital footage of a wide variety of underwater life forms.
Dave's Dive Shop and Marty's Marine Supply have tentativelycommitted as sponsors. Numerous other potential sponsors also existwithin our broadcast area.
Production costs would be minimal. The production could be done "live-on-tape" on Wednesday evenings in Studio B with three cameras one typically reserved for tabletop close-ups of exhibits. Dr. Adams
indicates he would be willing to host/produce the show for $950 perprogram. Our initial contract with Dr. Adams would be for 13 shows.
Although the guests would appear without compensation, the potentialsponsors have indicated that they would give the guests gifts inexchange for on-air acknowledgments.
The Sunday afternoon broadcast time slot now occupied by What In theWorld?, (which concludes April 2nd,) seems most appropriate, althoughthe final decision on this would be up to Programming.
Initially, the show would be done in three blocks:
Block #1 - Introduction of the guest; overview of the day's topic with abrief look at footage and exhibits. (about 7 min.)
Commercial break.
Block #2 - Discussion of the topic, primarily VO [voice over]concentrating on underwater footage and in-studio close-ups ofartifacts.
Commercial break.
7/31/2019 Good News From Bogota Template
16/37
Block #3 - Discussion and conclusion, again primarily VOconcentrating on underwater footage and in-studio close-ups ofartifacts.
As commercial support increased we would have the option of
going to four blocks separated by three commercial breaks.
Dr. Adams has already been contacted by WCFX-TV about doinganother special for them. If he hosted "Underwater Explorations," wewould obviously prefer him to be under exclusive contract with us forthe duration of the series. He has agreed to wait 30-days for ourdecision on "Underwater Explorations."
What will the television show be?
About underwater exploits around the world.
What will they call it?
Underwater Explorations
How often will it air?
One time per week (weekly)
What roles will they need to fill in order to produce the show?
-Host
-Guests
-Sponsors
-Camera man
What skills and knowledge will they need?
Knowledge about the underwater experiences and the things needed also very
good interviewing skills so the guests can express themselves with interesting
questions from the host and this generating interest in the viewers of the show.
7/31/2019 Good News From Bogota Template
17/37
How many blocks are they going to have? What about?
- 3 Blocks
- 1st block will be mainly about the presentation of the weekly guest.
- 2nd block will be about the discussion of the weekly topic, also
concentrating on underwater footage
- 3rd block will talk about the final discussion and will give a conclusion also
presentating underwater footage and in studio close up of artifacts as in
the 2nd block.
How long is the program going to last?
30 minutes.

What is a script?
A script is a document that outlines every aural, visual, behavioral, and lingual element
required to film your TV news program.
How do I make a script?
Get yourstory straight. Come up with lots of ideas of what you want to happen in
the TV news program. Create the premise and purpose of the TV show program.
Your reporters anf presenters will drive the action on the stage or screen, so
make sure you make them interesting and innovative.
Create an outline or treatment. Before you begin actually writing dialogue and
script, it might help to create a basic roadmap of what will happen in your TV news
program so you dont forget. Sketch out a general plan and envision how the news will
unfold. This should be told in the third-person.
Maintain your style. Remember, scripts are all about action and dialogue. Make
sure your characters speak realistically, and try not to mix styles of speech and
vocabulary too much unless you are going for a certain effect.
Ensure that different reporters anf presenters have their own 'voice' based
on their background, which will affect their word choices and dialect. This will
stop your characters from blending into one another.
Set the news. Don't forget to include important details such as time of day, setting,
and actions of the reporters and presenters in the scene. These are nearly as
important as the news that occurs.
Format your writing. Skip lines between one character speaking and a different
one speaking, especially if you're handwriting it. This will enable those reading the
script to distinguish between speakers more easily, and also allow space for notes.
Edit yourself. Continually revise your writing, and, if possible, show the script to a
friend or adviser who has writing experience and can critique and improve the script as
needed. You may also write your script in various ways, introducing people and even in
brackets telling the reader what is happening that the narrator is not reading. I.E.) jeff
walks off the stage or john closes the door behind him.

Once your script is written , the next step is to make a storyboard. Astoryboard visually tells the TV news program panel by panel, kind oflike a comic book.
Your storyboard will should convey some of the following information:
What charaters are in the frame, and how are they moving? What are the characters saying to each other, if anything? How much time has passed between the last frame of the
storyboard and the current one? Where the "camera" is in the scene? Close or far away? Is the
camera moving?
Why make a storyboard?
Creating a storyboard will help you plan your TV news program outshot by shot. You can make changes to your storyboard before youstart shooting, instead of changing your mind later. You will also beable to talk about your animation and show your storyboard to otherpeople to get feedback on your ideas.
How do I make a storyboard?
Most commonly, storyboards are drawn in pen or pencil. If you don'tlike to draw you can also take photos, cut out pictures from magazines,or use a computer to make your storyboards. Keep in mind that yourdrawings don't have to be fancy! In fact, you want to spend just a fewminutes drawing each frame. Use basic shapes, stick figures, andsimple backgrounds. If you draw your storyboard frames on indexcards, you can rearrange them to move parts of the the story around.
Storyboard Language
