August 2 2019
From the Director’s Chair Ed & Jeanette Carr, FL1-K Senior Chapter Directors
20,000 years before Gold Wings. What!!!
I would be pessimistic if I said the abnormal amount of rain we’ve had and the above normal temperatures of
95 to 100 degrees and feels like temps were much higher, but I won’t say that. The weather has given us time
to be with our spouse’s under different circumstances. And there is nothing wrong with four wheeling to an
event. A lot of us are getting up in age where we must pay attention to things like rain & heat. Staying
hydrated is also very important. I rode my RT trike up to Georgia two weeks ago and the temperature was
100 degrees from the time we left Jacksonville until we arrived in Conyers, GA at 5:00 pm. I’ll say this, the
worst thing about the ride was not the temperature but riding the back roads of GA and not having a GPS
after using one for 15 years.
Well now, after about 18 to 20 months of not having a winner in the Lotto Dinner Ride, we finally had a
happy winner on Thursday night. It was a light group for a Lotto Dinner. Normally we have 24 to 28
members attend this “FUN” event. Among those present for the drawing were, Bill & Kathy Mann, Gene &
Eileen Heaney, Fred Bismarck, Deanna & Albert Cisson, Gordon & Betty Currie, Gary & Ruth Sober
& Don & Judi Black and Jeanette & Me. Now first, everyone who wants to play forks over $1.00 and
they receive a ticket, whose numbers mean nothing. They print their name on back of the ticket and hand the
tickets in to Assistant Chapter Directors, Gene & Eileen Heaney who passes them along to me for safe
keeping. After dinner when everyone has finished eating and the anticipation has maxed out, I will bring out
the Royal Crown Blue bag containing 10 white chips and the one red chip. Each white chip has a number
from 1 to 10 and each number corresponds to a restaurant in the Palm Coast/Ormond beach area that has
been selected by the Ride Committee. If the member whose ticket was pulled earlier draws a white chip, that
just means the member pulled the chip the number on which tells us which restaurant we go to the next
month for the next Lotto Diner Ride. If the person pulls the red chip as happened last Thursday night, the
25th of July, when Don Black won $383.00. Congratulations to Don & Judi, and I heard Judi already has
plans for that money. Anyway, our next lotto Dinner, and starting all over again, will be at DB Pickles, on 22
August in Ormond Beach. Date is changed due to Wing Ding. Check out Don’s article in this newsletter.
We hope to see you at the 41st Anniversary of Wing Ding, at the Gaylord Nashville Resor t, August 27,
28, 29 and 31st. Wing Dings are always lots of “FUN” if you participate. Come on up and Jeanette & I will
show you how to have fun.
Georgia District is not having a rally this year, but they are having tree days of some fantastic mountain
riding you can find in Georgia. September 19-21, 2019, Carlos Lozano and other have put together 9 rides for
the three days. 2 half day ride and a full day ride for each of the three days of riding. Friday night there is a
chili cook-off where the delegates get to eat the food. Saturday evening there a GOURMET Hot Dog Dinner
for all fully registered members. ALL THIS FOR A REGISTRATION FEE OF ONLY $10.00 PER
PERSON.
We cordially invite you to the 2019 Mississippi District t Rally Theme is 20,000 Years Before Gold (Continued on page 3)

FRIENDSHIP...NOUN (and More)
Webster's New Collegiate Dictionary, "State of being friends; friendly at-tachment; friendliness; amity."
The Random House College Dictionary, "1. friendly feeling or disposition. 2. the state of being a friend; association as friends. 3. a friendly relation or intimacy".
New Webster's Vest Pocket Thesaurus, synonym, acquaintance, cognizance, companionship, familiarity, fel-lowship, intimacy, knowledge.
These publications pretty much cover it. The it? It' s the feeling when we are around our Chapter K Broth-ers and Sisters. It's the feeling when we meet members from other GWRRA Chapters at gatherings and rallies.
Whenever we meet at Chapter K rides, kick tires and dinners there is a mass greeting session of warm wel-come. We're greeting our friends.
The GWRRA motto is Friends for Fun, Safety and Knowledge. We, at Chapter K, are fulfilling that mandate and we count our lucky stars for our friends every time we meet.
Friendship is more than a word to all of us...it is a warm, happy, mellow feeling.

Membership Enhancement Musings
Jeanette Carr, Sr Membership Enhancement
RUNNING WITH THE BULLS
When you get a chance to talk with members about what they are doing or have done – there are some very
interesting stories. Face Book is also helpful in keeping up with members. That is where I learned about
Bob, Linda, & Robbie Coulson’s adventure of “running with the bulls”. Ask them about this fun time with
family.
WELCOME BACK STEVE CAMPBELL!! He originally joined in 2014. Steve & his wife went on many
rides and attended rallies before they became too busy with other parts of their lives. Steve has been going
on the Tuesday “Foot Loose” Rides.
Jim Butler got to r ide his new tr ike with “The Boys” before knee surgery. The day
after his surgery, Jim posted a smiling picture from his hospital bed to Face Book
saying he was doing fine and looking forward to riding again in six weeks. If his
surgery goes as well as Juanita’s did – he will be riding soon.
A few of our members had had surgeries/procedures – they seem to be doing
well and we wish a complete and speedy recovery for each.
Richard & Gail Dake along with Lamont & Jacqui Rigby are working members
who take vacation time to ride for a week and sometimes two. Richard is working on an
article about their travels. We look forward to this – keep writing Richard!
Richard also is a great source of bike maintenance & history.
Ride Safe. Hug your Friends. Enjoy Life.

From the Membership…….
A Blast From the Past.
Old relics, Yah...that probably includes me, but this is about a motorcycle.
When we had our dairy equipment sales and service business we decided to add snowmobile sales to fill in when winter sales were slower.
After looking at different manufactures, we chose to go with the Canadian company Alouette. (Which you most likely never heard of). In 1973 the company de-cided they wanted to get in to the motorcycle market with small dirt bikes. With no knowledge or experi-ence with motorcycles they somehow struck a deal with Penton (KTM) motorcycle company. Penton would build the stripped down bike and sell it to Alouette. Alouette would add the plastic work, fenders, tank and trim items, etc. But it was a short-lived ad-venture as it only lasted for a little over one year.
We were not interested in selling the bikes, but we did buy one for our own use. It was a 1973 Alouette AX125 with a Sachs 125cc motor. Never used it a lot, around the farm a little and at our place up north on the Muskegon River riding on the sand trails. It was a fun bike and the Sachs engines were quite strong and quick. It could easily smoke most all 200 and 250cc dirt bikes on the trail.
We never got rid of the bike. When we retired and moved to Florida we gave it to our son.
He still has it. Once a year he puts new gas and oil in it and rides it around the yard a bit. Then drains, lubes everything and puts it back in to storage. (Think he prefers his Harley Ultra Glide).
Just a few over 700 of the bikes were ever built and this is one of the very early ones.
A little side note, Alouette was bought out by Rupp Snowmobile Company in 1975, and then Rupp went out of business in 1978.
We took this picture of the bike sitting in our son's garage when we were up there durring the 4th of July this year. All in original condition, even the original tires.
Not bad shape for 46 years old!

Perseverance Pays Off by Don Black
Perseverance certainly paid off for me. At the July 25, 2019 Lotto Dinner event , I won the $383 lotto. The Lotto Dinner was started in July of 2015. The event is typically held the last Thursday of each month and the restaurant location changes each month. The concept is like that of a kick tire, to bring chapter FL1-K members together in a informal setting for camaraderie ,a meal, and fun. I believe that we have only missed
(Continued on page 7)

two ( maybe three ) of these events and it holds true that if you don’t play you can’t win. Judi had her ticket drawn once before but did not draw the red poker chip to win. I had never had my ticket drawn in the past. Here is how it works: You exchange a dollar for a ticket. You put your name on the ticket and it is placed in the bag along with everyone's ticket. The food server at the restaurant then draws a ticket from the bag. Who ever had their name drawn then has the opportunity to draw a poker chip from a bag that contains ten white chips and one red chip. If a white chip is drawn there is no winner and the pot (the money collected) is rolled over to the next month. If the red chip is drawn you win the pot. Having won $383 means that members have participated 383 times since the last winner. If you have not at-
tended a Lotto Dinner you are missing out on a lot of fun and a chance to win.

Ride Educators
Hot, hot, hot, and I’m not talking about all those girls on one of those Elvis Presley movies. I’m talking about what
the weather man is saying. It’s going to be HOT! Holy Schmoly, it was 103 on my car temp gauge the other day.
No wonder Chelsea wanted to ride in the air conditioned car! Smart service dog right there! Watching the news the
other night the weather man said we gonna be having a heat wave for the next several weeks. Well I’ve been in Flori-
da since 1957 and I know when the weather guy says several weeks hang on, we are in for it now! It’s gonna be
HOT!
Well, if you’re not as smart as Chelsea and do have to ride your great steed please be sure to drink, drink, drink,
plenty of, wait for it…………WATER!!! Best thing to stay hydrated is water! Even with some of those “sports
drinks” we need to be careful and read the labels! Some of the ingredients of some of those sports drinks will not
agree with some of the medications we may be taking, so be careful there. Check with your doctor. Whatever you do
STAY HYDRATED! Remember if you stop perspiring, you are already dehydrated. Get off your bike, out of the
heat and cooled down. Drink room temp water slowly to get hydrated. (A quick way I find to cool down is running
tap water over my wrists and a wet rag around my neck will cool me down quickly. Just a tip.)
Also, if you are riding in this heat keeping covered with long sleeves will prevent the wind from drying you out too
quickly, as well as the sun. When you perspire the wind through your clothing will actually help to keep you cooler.
And as we Gold Wingers all know wearing our helmet is yes, warm but, we do not get that brain fry as one will with-
out the helmet. If you remember an article in our Wing World magazine a few years ago that debunked that theory of
whether it was cooler with or without a helmet and they proved it was cooler WITH a helmet. So, let’s remember to
ATGATT. Best protection for many reasons. Common sense being number one!
Okie Dokie, make sure you check you chapter calendar for what’s going on and join in on the fun! I know you can’t
always make every activity posted but, try to make the ones you can. You won’t regret the FUN. Even if you must
four-wheel it, at least go!.. Pam and I often relent to Chelsea s wishes and take the air conditioned car. (grin)
Either way you go remember to
