“I was craving more than just a traditional study abroad experience; one that created an international experiential learning opportunity and connected my academic and professional interests.
The Global Professional Experience Program allowed
me to experience firsthand how a journalism company
operates in a different part of the world. At Caixin Media
in Beijing, I was able to research current topics around
the world, contribute to published articles, create
interview questions for meetings with globally recognized
individuals (such as foreign ambassadors, directors of the
chambers of commerce, and Chinese officials), as well
as work independently to develop my own news stories.
I was honored to spend the summer working under
the mentorship of several incredible journalists and
economists, including a Notre Dame alum.”

FurtherInternships provide a deeper, immersive experience in your host country’s culture. Many study abroad programs include this option at various small and large local organizations.
Do you want to jump-start your senior thesis or conduct research while abroad? Ask your advisers
how you can access local resources, archives, and other research
materials in your host country.
Students participate in a wide variety of community engagement opportunities in almost every program location. Service opportunities with local organizations provide a more holistic study abroad experience.
