Who Are We?
The Bulldog Breed Council was reformed in 1993,
after the original council disbanded in the ‘70’s, it
consists of 2 delegates from each of the 19 Breed
Clubs registered with the KC , its function is to
collectively represent the views of the Breed Clubs
back to the Kennel Club and a point of contact for
the UK Kennel Club to engage with Bulldog own-
ers.
Every three years the Officers and the Sub-
committees are elected by the membership.
The meetings are held every 4 months and the delegates are encouraged to attend Council Meet-ing to report back to their club committees , members and the public on what is happening within The Breed, The Standard, KC Registra-tions, Bulldog Breeders and how Government Leg-islation will affect our breed, breeding and Clubs.

BULLDOG BREED COUNCIL HEALTH SCHEME
BREEDERS HAVE A MORAL RESPONSIBILITY TO PRO-DUCE HEALTHY ACTIVE AND HAPPY PUPS FIT BY TEMPERAMENT AND CONFORMATION.
The Breed Council has been actively
involved for many years in develop-
ing a comprehensive program of
health checks, research and educa-
tion initiatives aimed at ensuring
the long term healthy future of the
breed. Foremost in these efforts, has
been the development of a specific
Bulldog Health Assessment, the
pilot for which was launched in
2007 and rolled out across the breed
the following year. The scheme now
has a national network of some 60
vets able to undertake assessments
in the form of a thorough, non-
invasive health check which is inval-
uable for breeders, but also, with the
results collated by the Breed Coun-
cil, it forms the basis of benchmark-
ing for the health of the breed.
Recognition of the value of this
scheme can be measured by the fact
that several other breeds have now
adapted the Bulldog Assessment for
their own breeds. An updated ver-
sion of the health scheme was
launched in April 2014 with
BRONZE and SILVER level awards
including 'Pass' and 'Fail' results, In
March 2016 it was renamed " A
Health and Conformation Scheme"
and a GOLD level award added.

BULL DOG BREED COUNCIL RECOM-MENDED VETS
Listed on the Bulldog Breed Coun-
cil website is a comprehensive list
of Vets who have experience in
treating Bulldogs . Listed Vets can
undertake the Health Scheme
Examinations for the awards.
If your vet isn't listed, and you feel
they have the experience then put
their name forward by completing
the form found under the Health
Tab .
We are all aware that a good rela-
tionship with our vets is of upmost
importance as we need to put our
trust in them when problems arise
that cannot be treated at home
In these times of over antibiotic use and continual medication, sometimes
looking at complimentary therapies within vet practice is another op-
tion….. Finding a vet practice who uses these therapies or has a qualified
practitioner connected to their practice is certainly a bonus.
I am lucky to have this within my vets practice (listed on the BBC recom-
mended ) , Caroline Purnell (a partner in My Pets Vets Lowton,) and she
agreed along with her colleague Paul to let me interview them and ask
about their findings when using Acupuncture within veterinary practice .
Both agreed that Acupuncture had a place in wound healing, inflammatory
conditions and pain control, working on pain receptors and encouraged
blood flow to affected areas, muscles.
They had both had proven results when using acupuncture alongside other
treatments,.
They feel that treating an animal holistically is of upmost importance and
that complimentary therapies can play an important role.
Each newsletter I will be introducing a complimentary therapy that are
being used with great proven results.
